Noisy motor on Lionel 627 | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

My engine/motor is making a loud buzzing noise when in forward or reverse. I have taken apart and cleaned the armature, brushes, housing. I have cleaned and lubricated the gearbox, motor shaft and axles. The truck frame is not loose. Wheels turn freely manually but not when power is applied. Suggestions? Thanks.

No, the reversing unit is working fine. This is a buzzing/growling noise coming from the motor when in the forward or reverse mode. The armature is not turning.

Test the armature for continuity among segments and shorts to the shaft.
