Passenger Car Interiors

That's really nice John. What do we see when the car is assembled?  Do you have some good close-ups to show?

I just opened up and redid the interior of a GGD Brass 21 inch 12-1 Heavyweight Pullman Sleeper.   I changed the lighting over to Warm White LED's, painted all the seats and the floors in the seating area, added 12 people as there were only 6 in there from the factory, and then added sofa/sleepers in two compartments that were bare and hiding behind frosted windows.   I painted the seats with AccuFlex 16-53 Erie Lackawanna Maroon, then went back over the seats with 50/50 wash of much brighter red inexpensive acrylic craft paint, as the Maroon was darker than I wanted.  While I had to paint them twice I don't regret it, the 50/50 wash kind of weathered the seats so they don't look "freshly painted"....   I ended up painting the floor with PollyScale acrylic color called "Dirt", doesn't sound very appealing, but it's actually a decent contrasting color.   The compartments and the inside walls of the car I glued down some very heavy textured colored cardstock that I bought at Joann Fabrics for less than $1.00 a sheet.   I had to reglue all the windows in the car, and painting around all those window openings wasn't going to be an option for me.  With a sharp knife and one of those green craft cutting boards I was able to cut all the cardstock to size and glued it in place.

The first photo shows how I got most of that really ugly Lime Yellow Green interior color covered with beige cardstock in the main 12 section area.    I really despise the color GGD paints the interiors of these brass cars..... 

Here are some pictures of interiors that I painted, added some furniture to, then added people to complete the scene:

Dining car. added table cloth which is painted white tape, pictures of plated food cut with single hole punch to make a round plate. Painted the seats.

Kitchen in dining car. Pictures on the wall are pictures I took of the real dining car kitchen. Added food and boxes made of painted Styrofoam. People added to make scene more interesting. We are having prime rib roast tonight.

A heavyweight dining car. painted the seats, added table tops with plated food and people. Kitchen walls covered with pictures of a train kitchen.

sleeping car. added sink basin on the wall plus actual picture of the mirror taken from a real sleeping car. Made a bed out of Styrofoam, bed sheet is painted white tape. Painted walls. Added some train pictures on the large walls to make the room more interesting

This was quite a fun project. You can add as much detail as you like. The insides can be quite detailed. I used pictures to cover most of the walls. The level of detail in my passenger cars is medium. Much more could have easily be done. I did not do anything with the floors, as they cannot be seen once the passenger car shell is added.
