@pennsyfan- Trolley is a Chinese inexpensive toy, pop'd up on the internet one day for $10 including shipping.  Looked about the right size for a static item on the layout so I bought one.  Have not seen the advertisement again. It is non powered and does fit very closely to 0 gauge but that may just be an accident.

AF station with crane

I see many differences here besides the crane Greg. Your base is red with brick and stone on the building. Also the lamp over the platform.

My base is grey, there aren’t any bricks or stone. There isn’t a lamp over the platform.
Do you know what era mine is?

Bob,

Your station and crane are from the Gilbert era given that there is a Gilbert tag on it. Gilbert took over American Flyer (Coleman era "Chicago Flyer") in 1939. I don't remember when the changes in color took place but the trackside buildings were all brown and yellow before the war.  My station is lithographed and was already being phased out before 1939.

PreWar AF Talking Station known as the "Akoostikin Station", Talking Tool Shed, and the Signal Tower

I will have to do some more reasearch to be more specific.

@pennsyfan and @Greg J. Turinetti - My Flyer station with crane is the same as Bob's (except I don't have the window inserts, they are missing).  My data says the station, which as you said Greg, is a post war Gilbert Flyer offering, came two ways .  One with the 589 type station with white painted embossed sides and brown trim and doors and a green sheet metal base .  The second configuration is as pictured in both Bob's and my post.  A grey sheet metal base with a 589 type station with white sides and red trim.  This station was available from 1946-1951 and 1953-1954.  (Source of information..."Greenbergs Price Guide to American Flyer S gauge, First Edition, 1980)

P.S. There must be something I am missing, as I cannot believe I could have any information on American Flyer that Greg does not have...   Best wishes everyone...Hey while I have some interested parties, does anyone know if the window inserts might be available for sale ????

OK all these Christmas trains photo's has caused me to really "dig deep" for a response.  Here is the family ca.1947 around the tree outfit.  Following ...pd and pennsyfan...Christmas trees, snow, vehicles, and oh yes trains...In this case a Lionel PW PRR turbine , milk car, dump car, crane car, and work caboose with a searchlight.  Plus some of those cardboard "made in Japan" Christmas houses that were covered in "snow".  Sorry for the b&w, my Dad was a professional photographer (weddings, babies, etc) in those days and his camera of choice was the old Graflex press camera, never shot color.  At this time I am somewhere between 3 and 4 years old, so I can't take much credit for this layout.  In fact, I am sure that I was told..."Santa" put it up.

Best Wishes for Thanksgiving everyone

Well its a little hard to decide what I am trying to follow up so I will pick both...

First following WwWebFlyer's passenger cars...here are some additional tin plate passenger cars, these post war, circa 1946 with the Lionel #224 locomotive

Brown Tinplate Pass Cars 2

Next following Sitka's cattle cars, a 1950's vintage Hornby (UK) type 51 and a 50 series Hornby cattle car same vintage.

Hornby Cattle Car and Type 51 Engine

Best wishes to all
