I have been in O scale 11 years and this afternoon discovered a coupler I have never seen before. I had to take it off the car because it would no longer stay secure; And when I took it off, I got the surprise of my life. I know this is not a Lionel or an MTH car. I'm guessing it may be an Atlas car? But the question is who made this coupler? I have never seen anything like this before.

Thank you very much! So that solves the mystery of the car as well. It's well made. It's scale size. The coupler gets screwed on from underneath like Atlas but it didn't say Atlas anywhere on the car. Fortunately between my wife and I we were able to get the coupler bent enough to wear its functioning again. If I have to replace it I'll just go to plan B and put Atlas trucks on it. Thank you so much!
Ummm, Atlas O trucks will give scale Weaver Ultraline cars high water pants look. The Weaver trucks/MTH die cast Weaver trucks/Lionscale trucks are really the only ones that will work for that car.
Any other tricks you will have to cut off the bolster [ triangle piece of plastic that the trucks mount to] from the underside of the car.
‘Curve beat me to the punch. I was going to say the same thing. I personally would not cut up the car to put Atlas trucks on it. If you do need new trucks another option is you could find a 2 rail truck built in the Weaver style (which is sort of the standard for 2 rail) and switch the wheel sets out for the 3 rail wheel sets. You may be able to find a Weaver coupler on the ‘bay or by asking for one around here. I used to have some extra of them but that was years ago.
