We have 3 MTH PS1 Diesel Locomotives we aquired. Unfortunatley, they have been stored for 5 years. All 3 will initialize with 2 bells, but nothing happens after that. Will the descrabler kit fix this or do the memory chips need replacing ???

Thanks

First off as posted make SURE you have a charged battery or BCR.  You do not say how old the "old" batteries actually are, but they may take a charge.

Second and VERY important, when you initially power up the unit(s) make SURE you do not exceed 10 volts.  If you exceed 10 volts the unit stays in program mode.

No the MTH kit is specifically for 3 clank software conflict.  There are MTH tech chips that can re-initialize some faults.

When you say does nothing what do you mean.  Do you still have sounds but they won't move?  If so PRR recommendation to ensure voltage is under 10V matters.  Also, what type of transformer?  Pure AC works best, some old models won't work with CW-80 or chopped wave transformers.

If after 2 dings the engine goes quiet, then you may have an ID or other software issue.  Model numbers help since MTH had specific engines with know ID software issues.   G

Stay away from the boards with the make ps chip if you do not have 3 clanks.  Never try to power up a PS-1 that has been sitting without a new battery.  Did you do a feature 18 reset?  Follow the red and black wire that connects the battery to the board and check for a broken connection at the board on those wires.  If none of this helps, get a MTH tech that has the 4 chip set to bail you out.
