Not sure what is going on here. I Have two ps3 es44ac lashed up together. I went to start them up using the #3 start up button. The concist ran ok, but there was no engine/prime mover sounds from the rear engine. I went into the engine list and pulled that engine into the active list in the remote. I selected that engine and turned up the volume. Still no sound. I then went into the sound menu and selected engine sounds and turned up the volume. No difference. There was no sound at all comming from the engine. Lead engine though was working as it should.

I tryed deleting the lashup in the dcs remote and rebuilding it again. Still no sound out of the rear engine when lashup is started. So I called up the rear engine to the active list and hit start up on the it. Engine sounds came on finnaly. They came on at full volume though. Went back to the consisted engines in the active list and they were sent back to the inactive list. I moved the lashup back up to the active list and hit start up. All functions were normall, but the volume was at full. I then turned down the overall volume using the volume down key on the remote.

This lowered the volume of the consist, but the rear engine was back to no engine sounds at all Just like before. Finnally my solution was to start the lashup and then bring both engines into the active list. Then address each engine and lower the overall volumes this way. Then go back to the lashup and it was all working as it should again. I also hit saved lashup state to hopefully save the settings.

What was going on here? Is this normall? Why is this happening? My other lashups do not act this way. Any suggestions?

According to Barrys book, your lashup is operating as designed. Only the head engine has sounds.

only the head engine has horn and bell sounds. The engine (motor) sounds should be on.

Different releases have different sound sets inside. Several have different volume levels. So when the consist is at say 50% total volume, a low level engine can sound like it's at zero.

There have been several posts complaining about this for years. My biggest event, was over the AC6000 soundset ( a certain year release) which seemed to be twice as loud as others. So when set as a trailing engine, it would sound so loud, that you can't hear the lead engine's horn!

The fix, is to address each engine and adjust it's volume. I believe that was a main attempt at the LSV key for saving changes made to each consist. Now if that works or not, is a separate issue.

joe you are correct. only the trailing or rear engine had no sound at all even when volume was turned all the way up. for some reason these two engines dont play nice together. its an issue where the rear engine does not start up when start up is pressed. they do however as you know run without starting up the sounds. just silent untill startup is pressed.

I may try reversing the two engines. build a new consist with the rear engine as the lead engine. not sure this will solve my issue though. its hard to visualize or understand unless you are right there playing with them in person. so thanks for the help though. maybe mth might know why this is happening. that is if I could talk to a real live tech as apposed to midge.

I have certain engine that do well together and I purposely pick engines that way. Our grandson comes over and won't adhere to that. So he makes me, make them get along. It takes extra work. He doesn't care. He likes what he likes. I go along to keep him interested.

I do feel for MTH. They tried to comply with operator's who complained. When they released a louder sound set, it created new issues. You can't please everyone all the time.

Every time I create a lash up, After I adjust all the options for the MU I have to adjust the sounds for each unit.           I would much rather adjust the sounds one time, when I first take the new unit out of box and put on track first time. They should stay that way until I want to change them !

When I set up the consist, here's what I do:

  1. Start each unit separately
  2. Adjust the individual locomotive settings (sound volume, smoke).
  3. Create the "lash-up"
  4. Start the "lash-up"
  5. Run. If there's a derailment that causes a short, sometimes the link in the consist is lost in which case you need to select the individual members, start them, then start the "lash-up".

This has worked consistently for years. We have five TIUs (version 6.1) running under Super-TIU mode, plus TMCC/Legacy.

matt I will try that. only in this case when I tryed it that way it all went to @###! and I had to start all over again. if this is a software issue and not a hardware issue. you would think mth would have gotten it right by now. my lionel legacy lashups are so much easier and stay that way untill I delete them.

You may want to delete the "lash-up" and start over. Usually after I run a consist, I delete it and do a feature reset on the engines. Just a habit.
