  Barry, Guns, RJR & others,

Gentlemen when changing from one engine to another on the DCS HHRC while running several engines, I pick from the active list and push the thumb wheel and the engine I choose is saying, Engine is not on Track.

Then I shut the HHRC down and restart it, when the screen comes back up, the engine I have just chosen is now in the run section of the screen, and can be operated perfectly.

What the heck is going on?  I have 10's all around on the Track, the Batteries in my HHRC are fully charged.  Most of my P2 Engines have BCR's, a couple still have  batteries, that do not need changed yet.

I do know I need my  TIU's and HHRC upgraded to the latest changes, however this has never happened before, my one TIU and HHRC are at Level 4.3 and the other older one is at 4.1.  Everything has been running great until today.  My 263E always comes to the run screen and it is the oldest DCS P2 engine I own.  It does have a BCR in it.

Could use a little DCS Wizard magic on this one.

Dave,

my one TIU and HHRC are at Level 4.3 and the other older one is at 4.1.

Aren't you the guy who always says agreed with me that the releases of all DCS components should be the same, or was that some other Dave?

Seriously, though, DCS 4.1 and DCS 4.3 are more different than you would think. DCS 4.3 is actually an early version of DCS 5.0 before MTH added support for the DCS App. The first thing that you should do is upgrade everything to DCS 6.1, which is very stable.

Some questions:

  • Is it just one engine to which this happened once, or multiple engines many times?
  • Are you operating in Super TIU mode?

There's a bug in DCS 4.1 that was fixed in DCS 4.2 (and later) that could prevent an engine from getting out of the Inactive List if it was on a TIU channel's that was different from the TIU to which it was last added.

Barry,

Remember my Christmas layouts were actually smaller for the last few years and I only used 1 TIU, with the 2 HHRC, so I had no problems.  I am now using both of them for the new train room, and yes I know that they both need upgraded badly.  As per your questions, it happens with every engine, except my early P2 263E.  No Super mode right now.  Everything was working perfectly till today when this problem started.

I was going to have MartyE Upgrade my DCS Packages, then my Legacy Crapped out so I was waiting till after it got fixed, to start upgrading the DCS units. Now it looks like I will be shipping them to him, for up grade earlier than I wanted too.

It looks like I am no longer going to be able to add engines, unless I build a programming track, funny thing is I added all these engines on the overhead shelf layout as I was building.  Now it says check track and does not find the new engine.  Will ship Marty one of the DCS units for upgrading, and keep the other here, to use with my trains, then send him the other unit when I get the 1st one back.

If I take one unit off line the other will probably work decently again, for a while.

Did not know there was any kind of problem with the 4.1 units, mine worked fine till now.  Your analysis is probably right on the money as usual.  The engines will not come out of the inactive list now, and for some reason my #3 NASA switcher just disappeared from the HHRC all together.

Been a rough week the Legacy goes down and now the DCS must be upgraded sooner than I wanted too.

Thanks much buddy for the advise, and the furthering education.

Guilty as charged!

Might use the Bumper Car line as a DCS programming track, it's already close to the TIU's just above the fire place on the mantle.
