I'm somewhat interested in the system, but trying to figure out what I'd need just to run engines from the App. Wifi module plus power adapter? And maybe a sensor track?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just the Wifi module w/ PS cable and a Legacy Base. The sensor track is not needed but will give you an indication of where an engine is if equipped with the IR sensor.
Blue Train is designing a Android App for engine control and I believe Lionel has started an iPhone App for controlling engines as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Marty. Certainly something I'm interested in with having young ones with an interest in the trains.
Also something I'd add to as I plan a switching layout for control of switches and other command accessories. Just want to test drive it so to speak for simple operations.
I'd be curious to know if Lionel has a desire to construct a smaller piece of hardware that replicates the function of the Legacy base for those who might desire to operate only via smartphone applications.

That would be a good question for the Legacy Users Group meeting we do at York. We submit questions for Lionel to answer. I will put it on the list unless Jon answers it before then.
So far they have stayed away from a full CAB2 replacement in a smartphone device. Primary concern being display space I am thinking. But with the Legacy codes released maybe a 3rd party will develop one.

True, but isn't the interpretation of those codes by the base Lionel's domain?

I misinterpreted your reply. I thought you were suggesting a 3rd party would make a base replacement.
Display space could be an issue, but swiping between different panels (like the current AUX button usage) could help expand available space.
Just an intriguing idea. I'd be curious of LCS adoption numbers and then how many folks use the LCS app some percentage of the time for all operations. The latter would presumably be knowable from app communication of data back to the app developers.
I've had the chance to operate trains from the App. I prefer the Cab2.
I do like it for controlling switches and accessories though.
The currently available BlueTrain Android app works very good for controlling trains even though it does not have the full Legacy command set.

And Marty I meant to say thanks for potentially bringing up my question. I've been patiently waiting for my 990, so my question is more for other folks maybe less inclined to use a Cab2.
