Hey guys & gals,

I just purchased this MTH R36 Worlds Fair Subway set, (30-2274-1), since it is a PS2 I went ahead and purchased a BRC battery to replace it. When I open it up I found that it doesn't have a battery, at least I can't find it. The set runs fine, station stops are clear, etc. Only issue is an echo on the engine sound.  I believe this is the dreaded 5V board. Maybe you guys can give me some advise on which route to take with this set.  Thanks in advance, JorgeIMG_1759[2)IMG_1760[1)

They remade the R-36 WF trains in PS3. That sure looks like a ps3 board. You were either sold a ps2 model upgraded to ps3 or the ps3 version. Either way, you're better off, since the original ps2 model was  one of the dreaded 5 volt boards.  Save the BCR for your next purchase and consider yourself lucky, LOL!

That's the PS32 board, it's a replacement for failed PS/2 boards.  The fact that the harness and board has black connectors means it was originally a PS/2 5V board that failed.

You're good, it's better that the 5V PS/2, those die at the drop of a hat.

Check the speaker it should be a 4 ohm speaker for the PS32 board.  If they didn't replace the 16 ohm speaker I recommend you do that ASAP.

Update lol,

Strap Hanger, I contacted Bill, he still in the process of getting the store ready to reopen, so I will take it to him when he does. Apparently I don't think its the speaker, or I may be wrong. I checked all the wiring and somehow when you press down on the boards it works fine, but once I put the cover back on it either stops working or it begins to echo. That plastic just sitting on top of the speaker seems weird.  When I run it without the cover it works fine though. lol

Classic issue, the two board stack has a very short pin engagement.  I usually take the two boards out of the carrier and use Kapton tape to tightly strap them together.  Also, a bunch of these board sets shipped with incorrect trimmed leads on the top board, if pressed together, they could punch through the cover on the capacitor below and short out, not a good thing!  See below, trim those flush before putting the board back on.

That’s strange. Gunrunner John seems to have a handle on what may be causing it, though. Bill at ready to roll will be able to repair it and get it working.  I’ve never seen a subway with the board just placed on the speaker like yours. All of mine have some type of casing that keeps them separated, even the 3/2 upgrades i have.  Bill will know and get it up and running. He did a few 3/2 upgrades of my subways and they worked out great.  I just think you may want to get the seller to rebate you something for this.
