Picked up an additional Legacy #990 system that has V1.0 and wanted to register it so I could get it upgraded. I had to put in another e-mail address in order to register a second system.

all registering does is get you the old blue modules with 1.3.
your unit with 1.0 would have to go back to Lionel if it doesn't have a mark.
Of the blue modules you get will allow you to create a couple of black modules from them, so it's a worthwhile investment of $0.

Got an e-mail from them this morning. They wanted my address and phone number. I've been in the Lionel system for almost 15 years. Anyway, I sent it.
I registered it so that if I decided to get it upgraded I could sometime in the future, I purposely purchased a V1.0 to do some research on possible features that are in this version and removed by the upgrade.
I don't expect any but just wanted it registered in the event that I have any problems with the system in the future.

I know of lots of added features, but no removed features. I'll be interested to learn what you think was removed.

You won't be sorry you had them update it to V1.2. Then they will send you the Modules to update it to V1.3. I was a BETA Tester for V1.3, and believe me it is well worth while. Especially from the standpoint of Signal Range alone. And if you talk nice, they may update it all the way to V1.51. Never know unless you ask!!
For what it's worth,

I'm personally hard pressed to think of a reason not to upgrade to 1.51.

I'm still working on it. There was a lot of discussion early on during a meeting held at York prior to the release of the system.
