Remove Shell off Lionel SD40-2 | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I have a Legacy N&W SD40-2 I need to remove the shell in order to change the direction of the crew figures around but there is no clear distinction as to where the underside screws are. Can someone provide a more direct explanation?

It has been a long time since I had my SOO SD40-2 apart, but I want to say there's 3 pairs of screws. One pair at each end of the locomotive "under" the trucks, and there might be another pair UNDER the fuel tank.

Also, my U30C had a bell that was glued into the body through the frame. So, even though I had took out all the screws, the shell would not come off until I used needle-nose pliers to remove the brass bell.

Hopefully, someone can confirm my "memory".

If i remember correctly they ae the fuel tank screws or theyre under the fuel tank

They should be located in the same spot as their TMCC brothern. You should not need to remove the fuel tank:
