I have the Lionel H16 LIRR and while I was running it on my friend Don Jones layout, I lost control of it's speed. This some research on the OGR Forum and decided to try to fix it. Suggestions were to replace the magnet or to replace the whole motor unit. With nothing else to lose, I decided to glue the magnet back onto the flywheel. I used gorilla super glue and reinforced tape. It been about 5 weeks and 17 hours of use and it is still holding and working fine.

I do not believe I would have ever thought of repairing the engine this way but seeing is believing. After your repair, the engine appeared to run as smoothly as it did before.

WOW! I've never tried gluing one of those in pieces back on, I usually go for the flywheel and magnet ring from Lionel, I keep several in the parts box. I'm impressed it worked, nice job! 
The hardest part of doing something like that is getting the flywheel balanced.
