Seems like the site is hanging a bit lately

The past few days I've had sessions that would partially load - seemed like it was getting hung up waiting for an ad server or something.

Basically all you get is the navigation - the rest never renders...looks like its waiting for "adspeepshosted" - at least that what it looks like

Just FYI.

I have not seen this nor have we had any other complaints about it. There are two things that could be causing this.

  1. It is possible for the internet to have a "traffic jam" so to speak, in a certain area. Internet traffic between one of the three main servers involved (Hoopla, Adpeeps and Amazon) and your computer  is getting slowed down somewhere.
  2. You may have an issue with your computer. I would suggest clearing the cache and cookies as a start. If you don't do that on a regular basis, your computer gets loaded down with thousands of cookie files and cached web pages, all of which serve to slow the machine down.

I'm now over at my parents house - different computer, different ISP.

Same behavior - hangs on "adpeepshosted.com"

But then finally loads...

If you're in the same general area at your parent's home it could still be a traffic issue. I am not seeing this in NE Ohio at the OGR Raw Nerve Center, nor has anyone else mentioned anything about it.

Haha! Raw Nerve Center.... good one.

P.S. No site-loading worries north of the border.

"Nice try, Lao Che!"

I was thinking of posting about this a couple of weeks ago, but didn't want to get banned from the OGR site for saying anything less than glamourous.

The site is extremely slow: on my Android 7 phone; on my laptop where ever I might be; on both of my home computers; and on both of my computers at work.  The change was not gradual, but more of a cliff function.  I thought it was new software at OGR, or changing servers, whatever.  I see the same adpeeps on the screen bottom just like ROVINGSIGN.

Now I watch the top four blue lines appear one at a time.  All other websites show no difference in the speed of loading or response time (I'm sure there is a railroad term for all of this that I am not using correctly).  I just don't waste my time waiting anymore.

I don't think I've noticed it today.

Not a big deal - just an FYI for the site owners.

Since this is a hosted platform - not sure its up to them to worry about it. More like a Hoop.la issue.

But yeah - seems like an ad server holding up the page loads.

Havent really noticed it on my phone though...sometimes the CSS takes a second to decide what font to use - but its always been like that.

One thing that just dawned on me - (duh!) - I Just built a new PC and loaded it with Linux Mint 18 - still running Firefox - but without the "NoScript" plug-in.

So - previously - I probably was blocking these elements (and not giving it a chance to hang)

Thats probably why Im just noticing this...and as suggested - It could be some regional bottle neck or just some trouble/maintenance at the server farm.

Right...do you really think we would do that? Good grief...

By the way, the correct spelling is "glamorous."

Or it is just something slowing traffic between you and Adpeeps and/or Amazon. The ad banners are actually served from Amazon servers. I doubt that Amazon is having any issues there. And it was an inherent problem with THIS site, I would have hundreds of notices about it. I don't.

Here in Ohio when I bring up a forum page, whether here at the OGR Raw Nerve Center or at home, the banner ads all load almost instantly as does the rest of the page. The main forum page - banner ads, Forum List, Recent Posts, Members On Line and the Calendar of Events all load in about 1 second. This is true on my desktop at OGR, my iPad at home, my laptop at home and my desktop at home. If there was something wrong with the site itself, I would not be seeing that level of performance.

I see various sites stall occasionally, usually with some similar advertising site sitting in the status bar, I just chalk it up to the oddities of the Internet.  In the most egregious examples, I've been known to stick a null entry in my HOSTS file to bypass the problem site, but that's usually not necessary.
