I am trying to hook the sensor track up by it self not connected to the Legacy Base. All I want it to do is blow the horn at the crossing. I can get it to work when connected to the base but I can not get to work when not connected to the base. Where I want is to far from the base. When I get the wifi module it won't be a problem as I can make the cables reach then. I would appreciate any help that you can give me.

I don't think it has any way to send a signal out to the base other than by wire.
I don't want to send a signal to the base I just want the sensor track to blow the horn when it passes over the sensor track.

I'm not sure it works that way? It was my understanding that sensor track told the base what signals to send out and without the base connection then no go. But I may be wrong.
The sensor track blows the horn (plus everything else) by signaling the command base which then sends the signal to the loco.
You stated that your cable is not long enough. I believe you can use a computer DB9 serial cable (male/female) to extend it to reach your base. you can can find a cable on line or a stores like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. About $10 for a 12' cable.
The only entity that can send Legacy commands is the Legacy command base. The Sensor track sends it's commands to the Legacy base, which sends out the appropriate command to the locomotive.

Do you think a 25' cable would work? A 20' cable would work but I can't find one.

I have run RS232 a lot longer than 25 feet, including to the Legacy base. It shouldn't be a problem.
