When Standard Gauge trains sparked my interest last year, I promised myself I would maintain a semblance of self-control when making purchases... and so far, I'm sticking to that resolution.

The LCT catalog was a bit of a snoozer for me, but the blue/red/gold National Ltd train in the Ives brochure was actually something that was on my wish-list having just missed an earlier release at a local train shop late last year.  And while I'm not thrilled with the $400 increase in MSRP this time  (as compared to the prior 2008 release), I don't exactly want to miss out on this jewel for a second time ... so I'm hoping the MSRP delta will be mitigated somewhat with dealer street-pricing.

The blue Dorfan train (with passengers in the cars) has also caught my eye, but the jury is still out as to whether I'd get that too.  The Ives National Ltd is a definite... not sure I'll jump for both 'cause these sets aren't exactly inexpensive.

I'm looking forward to see what MTH has in store for a 2014 Tinplate Traditions catalog in a couple of months.  But since I'm focused on "building" a new layout right now, I don't find myself all that motivated to go overboard on the roster right now.

So far,  probably the Ives water tower and one of the monorails.

I fortunately, was able to find the Ives blue/red/gold loco and cars at two York shows from the previous catalogs, otherwise that too would be on my list.

Allot of items in the current LCT catalog are leftovers from the previous catalog.  Should be interesting to see what the Tinplate Traditions catalog has to offer, but I wouldn't expect it to be too thick.

I would be.  Come on.

I agree Marty. I don't have one in the "Lionel Lines" orange and blue but you would think they would have made the caboose for it already. They decided to come out with the smaller 2600 series caboose instead?   I'm in for the mono rail and maybe the 98 coal bunker.

I don't usually follow the production of new tinplate. I have "limited" my collecting energies and resources to American Flyer, and most recently only to pre war Flyer. However, the Leland Detroit monorail has always fascinated me.  I checked the catalog online and see that it will be produced in Lionel colors.  Is there any talk of a new reproduction in original colors?

"Tinplate Traditions" is what MTH called there tinplate line before the licensing agreement with Lionel. MTH could not have Lionel or American Flyer markings on there standard gauge or O gauge products. In 2009 MTH and Lionel came to an agreement that MTH would produce tinplate trains with the Lionel/American Flyer Logo's. Another 3 year contract was put together not that long ago to continue making tinplate under the Lionel/American Flyer banners. From this agreement came some Lionel engines/Passenger cars that MTH would probably not have "tooled up" for if the Lionel banner could not be used such as the "Brute" and the matching showroom cars.
