This iconic Machine tool was present in all metal manufacturing.

River Leaf Models recreate one of them, a mid size Drop Forge Hammer.

The Steam was use to lift the hammer, the gravity was drop it impacting the metal. the same steam was used to cushion the hammer and reduce the impact force.

-The dimension are 5.00" tall, 3.00 wide and 1.00" deep.

-The hammer can be moved manually up or down.

-Aluminum rod for shiny appearance.

Already available in our website!!

The company I worked for many years ago owned a subsidiary located in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee plant had many drop hammers and all sorts of special tools.   They did more specialty work rather than mass production.    They had built the largest drop hammer in the world.    When I was there they tended to run it on Fridays.    The office building I visited about 1/2 mile away shook when the hammer hit!

The company also made a vertical rolling mill called a "ring Machine".   You had to take it apart to load the stock into it.    It is where the "rings" for the space shuttle boosters where made.    They made the rings and as far as I know not the seals between the rings.

Andre,

Awesome model. This is a great addition to a locomotive backshop or manufacturing facility.

I would love to see a press like this modeled in O scale.

I had the opportunity to design several foundations for presses like these for a company I do work for. I am suppose to do more in the future. This would be cool for a modern or 40's layout.

Also, when I was at Lehigh University for a structural design class for work, we toured their structural testing facility and they had in their one building a Baldwin press that was from Bethlehem Steel. These press is used to test beams. The baldwin press is about 8 stories height (About 72 feet)

Thank you, Chris for the information.

The first press is pretty square, if you are willing to make all the details and drawing I can cut for you the main structure.

Aaron, check my website!
