Is the car plastic or brass? If brass then a solvent stripper will work the fastest. If plastic it will be tough. I've had good luck with liquid laundry detergent on Post War paint but modern paint is much tougher. Its safe though and if you soak it for a day and don't see any paint coming off you will have to try something else. Forget brake fluid as it will attack many plastics and might destroy your car.

For plastics there are many ways. The best I have ever used is oven cleaner. I have at times used the 91% alcohol. Be aware though that it recently destroyed a post war alco shell. It litterally melted it. I have never had any problems with modern plastics.  I have used the Weaver scale coat stripper but it is very slow to work and you will be doing lots of scrubbing. When you repaint make sure humidity is below 60% and its not too hot.
