I'm glad that worked out for you Tiffany!  Feel free to do whatever you want with the other speakers.  You can surely send them to Robert Bradley Jr if you'd like, but they will require a bit more work.  One should really confirm that is the issue first, which is easiest with a direct replacement.

Robert, I have a stash of the factory speakers that I would be happy to send you if you want to swap it out.  Just contact me via email in my profile.

Hello audidriven.........

ok, we just wait for Robert to respond and see what he wants to do ?  How come the digital dynamics company went out of business i wondered.  The digital dynamics speaker provides more vibrations and so its great!!!!!!!!! because now whole tender vibrates more with the button pressed and our 2 cats don't like it at all now.  The orginal speaker didn't bother them LOL.

Tiffany, I hope you are ready for this as the tender alone is enormous.  Since it is so large I decided to play around and upgraded mine with dual Bose Jewels speakers and ERR cruise.  I think it was a bit too loud for Sasquatch!

how much was those speaks and were can I buy them at?..Your tender is the size of my 3rd rail PRR S1Duplex..I do have a TAS EOB with cruise with railsound That Im hoping to put in my S1..I even have there turbo smoke unit to ..

One speaker unit comes with 2 speakers, which you need to match the impedance.  They have to be the smaller Bose Jewel speakers with the metal grille and not the fabric grille as those are too large.  They generally go for around $75 on the bay, which makes them a bit much for a train install unless it's an engine you really love.  I basically did it because I wanted to see what was possible.  They are larger speakers that require you to shave a bit off the tender flange that seats against the frame so you would need to be willing to accept the modifications.  They do sound awesome and I would do it again if I could find the speakers much cheaper.

whats the watts and ohms on them?..my tender frame is alittle over 2 1/4" wide..lenght is 13 1/8"..would like to hear your train when its done.. wonder how they sound against lionels fatboys?with shell on its 14 1/2" long and 2 1/2"wide..Im going to put the speakers tords the engine to make the sound like its comming from it..

I don't recall that wattage.  They are 4 ohm speakers, which is why I went about looking for a model to install 2 so I could match Lionel's 8 ohms.  I also have a 3rd Rail SF 4-8-4 3751 that I installed a single Bose speaker with a 4 ohm resistor, but the resistor strips some of the oomph (technical term).  It still sounds great and I plan to test other resistor, but I think for a single speaker install I would stick with a QSI deep bass speaker as they are WAY cheaper.  I have a second 3rd Rail 3751 that I use for side by side speaker comparisons and the QSI was pretty darn close.

Fat Boys can't touch these speakers, you just can't compare a brass tender and RS 4 to a diecast tender with the latest sound.  I add sound deadening material to the shell, but I really need to do a side by side comparison to see if it really makes a difference.  I also seal off as many open ports as possible, which helps no matter which speakers you use.

If you are ever in the Minnesota area you are welcome to stop by and hear it.

Let me know what you end up doing.   Good luck!

Nick

heres what a guys did to his lionel challenger..he put his speaker in a incloser....and put a fat boy in it..what you did is good..think my speaker is 8 ohms..but putting 2 4ohms speakers takes the place of one 8 ohms speaker..id got the idea of putting the speakers tords the engine from that guy..make the sound more real comming from the engine then tender..

Yes, the enclosures work well, but I found they work best for speakers that don't have as much throw like the earlier Digital Dynamics speakers.  If you look on page 3 of this post you'll see a photo of 4 speakers where one has the enclosure.  I use PVC end caps and run the wires right through them.  I tried it on one of the Bose speakers once, but I couldn't get one large enough to benefit the sound without being too big to fit in a tender.

I know some guys uses foam board insuration, like the ones you put on your house before to put the sidding over it..I use that for floation in my rc race boats..Was thinking on using balsa wood to insuration..since car speaker boxes and good home stereo speaks boxes are made from..you know wood is a good accustic for sound..

ya..LOL  Three speaks could have the police at my front doors too for to much noise .. my nabors might not like that to well...ya this tender is long..but hey its from the largest steamer that was ever built..140 feet.. and scale is 36"long....On that Santa Fe  Im suprised 3rd rail is still putting in suit smoke units in there trains instead of fan driven unit..
