Happy Switcher Saturday everyone. Today, I am pitch-hitting for "Sir Switcher" Rich Murnane, who is handling family obligations.

I actually took some new photos of my "workbench layout." These shots are of my always reliable #228. I got some great news from Harry Henning this week that another one of my prewar steam switchers is almost done with its heavy "class" repairs. This locomotive was a bit of a gamble for me since I knew it was really an abused locomotive when I bought it with its headlight snapped off, wiring pretty shot, drivers dinged up, etc. I hope to get it back soon and post some updates on this thread:

Any rules to our topic here you might ask? Well, not really. If you have a switcher, smell like a switcher or have a neat picture of a switcher, jump right in and post the image! Don't be shy, especially if you are a newbie. Everyone is welcome here and we do believe that anyone who is fond of switchers has great intellectual instincts!

Yay! Happy SWSat! 

Rich is away so Tom is in charge today of heading up the consist. And we are off to s great start with that great Pre War switcher from Tom's stable. 

This week I am stuck at work to finish up some loose ends in some store displays. Unfortunately this weekend was full of things on my train calendar. If only I could split my self 3 ways. 

One of the things on the docket was the Open House at my club the New York Society of Model Engineers in Carlstat/Rutherford NJ. I did leave work sort of on time on Wednesday so I could help in the prep for that. 

I got some good pics of switchers on the layout there including a few I have not seen in O scale. It is two rail club but I hope to get a pass.  

imageimageNext up is a very nice modern road switch job out under the wires. imageI had not seen a GE 70 Tonner in o scale. I like the short line scheme too. imageHere is a nice C16 in home road paint. image

I think this one was GMD the model that spurred Lione to make thier NW2. Look at the flat head screws holding the trucks together. imageOk now this one is a real cheat but I really like the NY&A paint schemes on these. I have a K-line MP15 that might go this way. image

Andy/Silver Lake- Looks like a great layout. I love that little Dockside loco.

Dave/Steamer - I've seen that B4 #643 before online at Williams Grove, I think. Glad it is still steaming along.

Patrick/TRUMPTRAIN- Looks like there is lots of activity on your railroad! 

BAR GP7 #63- How many cars can that trackmobile pull?

DaveP- I like the stone walls in your bottom picture. Are they home-made? 

Mike Caruso- Nice looking diesels you have there.

JHZ563- Inside the thaw shed, it looks like the locomotive is plugged in to some extent. If yes, it reminds me of a Jeep CJ-7 I owned back in the 1980's which had an engine block heater that you could plug in to keep it warm.

Mike C. How was the Soo able to keep these white engines clean. It seems a daunting task.

Yeah... Rahway Valley 16. That's a nice custom. I think Bachman makes those locos, and someone else makes the decals. Now if only Atlas made O scale RVRR locos. They'd look great with Atlas's other M&E, NYSW and RRRR equipment!

Yes I know of Bachman's HO model as a teenager I had the first release version. I think this one was made by R.Yoder

No that Republic engine isn't plugged in.  The thaw shed is exactly what you would think it is.  A shed about 3 or 4 hoppers long full of electric heaters.  We recently finished the fall pm work to get them all working again.  It is used to warm up coal hoppers before dumping them.  Often in winter the coal freezes and sticks to the cars.

My last post contains a photo (taken Sept. 13, 2016)  of two of the three SW1200's owned by Simpson Timber Company waiting for the Puget Sound & Pacific to take them on their way to their new owner(s).  Sad to see them go.  1201 is the City of McCleary and 1202 is the City of Montesano.

I rarely get a chance to with my schedule. I get on here since I can at work.

If you were looking to work for a Railroad, I would highly suggest a Class1 Railroad or even NJT over a small line like the RC.

Probably should've been more specific. I'd like to gain some experience with them as they're pretty much 10 minutes from where I live. NJT is more or less my end goal. Either NJT or Conrail. I'm not the kind of guy who wants to be stuck on a Class 1 away from my home or something. But that's my opinion on the matter.

Joe, I felt exactly the same way when I was getting out of high school, had to look at job availability in the late 1970's and decided against railroading as a career. Overall, I would have loved doing so, but back then, the Northeast railroads were in bad shape which eventually led to the formation of Conrail.

Thank you Tom/MNCW for taking the lead Saturday, and thanks to everyone for contributing!  I was up in Upstate New York for family and sure enough I ran into at least one train thing "in the wild", a caboose sitting on the side of the road ready to be leased for some sort of retail space!  I took a peek inside, it's a little rough but it's available if anyone wants to run a shop in a caboose in downtown Windham New York!
