Not sure what happened to Dave/Steamer, but since it is 8am on the East Coast, and with the powers granted to me (absolutely none), I thought I should start up Switcher Saturday!

This was last week's topic in case you missed it:

Hope everyone has a great weekend and let those switchers roll!

Dave, Glad everything is OK. We will figure out some suitable reparations for my big sacrifice at some point, maybe just something minor like signing over that old Plymouth to me???

Tom

strange happenings on the swichtracks  today.....

train cars are shrinking as they are backed into the siding.....

officials have been called in to look into this situation.....

NASA is now on the scene, investigating what they are calling the ,

"SHRINKing swichtrack Saturday".....

NASA says it is not yet clear as to what is causing this phenomenon,

the investigation continues......

So it's agreed- we each get the Plymouth for a month right

I promise I'll return it washed with a full tank of gas!

Dave I think those drive rods might work on your switcher as well.  Don't remember were I got them though lol

My ipad that I usually post with is really not doing well I think the Battery is dying. So what I had ready is AWOL so I am posting some pics of a Road diesel that seems like it is turning into a passenger engine. The GP40-FM was a rebuilding project that grafted ex BN F45 cowls onto GP40s. There were 21 done for NJT and MetroNorth. Usually here we post pics of engines demoted to switcher status here is one that was promoted the other way.

One of these units is now running up in the Adirondacks on the Saratoga and North Creek. My wife took these on Wednesday and since they are on my phone I can post them. She was coming in on Amtrak and they meet at Saratoga and go north to North Creek. Sorry for skirting the rules. Still interesting making an engine less practical for switching.

Have a great weekend and I'm off to see if I can get a new Battery.

IMG_2982IMG_2983IMG_2984IMG_2986IMG_2987IMG_2991IMG_2981Good morning fellow SWSAT friends!!!  Honestly, my first thought upon waking this morning was " It's Switcher Saturday"!   I think this thread is having an addictive affect on me .  It's like I have to have my fix of SWSAT or my Saturday is not complete.   I hope it doesn't get to the point where I have to attend SWSAT anonymous meetings.

At any rate Dave it's quite OK to oversleep.  We all do it once in a while.  Tom thanks for starting the thread today!  I was however hoping that we all might get to ride in that Plymouth, of course when I learned that it was an Plymouth automobile and not a Plymouth switcher I decided that I would pass.  Dave I'm sure your Plymouth auto is fabulous though!

I took some fresh new photos of my Maryland and Pennsylvania SW 1 as it was pulling a peddler freight through town.   When I was 3 years old I got my first cab ride in a B&O SW - 1, which was the station switcher for Camden Station ( the name sake for Camden Yards Stadium which now stands beside Camden Station in Baltimore ).  My parents were taking me to NJ to visit friends.  My Dad had me out walking the platforms when the engineer invited us aboard.  Since our trains was not due for quite some time, I got to sit in the engineers lap as he and the crew did some switching maneuvers. He actually put my hand on the throttle ( as his hand was also on the throttle ) to give me the illusion I was making the SW - 1 move.  Pretty cool experience!!!   I was hooked on trains before that experience but that cab ride sealed the deal!   With six stub end tracks and two run through tracks, Camden Station was a busy station back then.  The station head house is now a sports museum and MARC ( Maryland Rail Commuter ) uses two of the stub end tracks as it's Baltimore terminus for the Camden line, which is owned by CSX.

Here is another photos of an EMD switcher which is one of 2 privately owned switchers of the Waste Management Corporation's plant in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.  Waste Management Corp. handles recycled garbage.  It's pretty smelly around this place and  buzzards frequent the tops of their tall gons.  The plant is adjacent to the CSX mainline ( the former B&O Washington Branch ). IMG_2963

SWSat update:

here in northern Ohio, testing is still under way, into what NASA is calling the

"SHRINKing switchtrack Saturday" syndrome. news of this is spreading nationwide...

many tests are being made, few clues have been turned up...trains are still shrinking when being backed into this siding....

a loaded tour bus from Alaska has just arrived with curious passengers...

NASA, still not fully clear on what is causing this situation, stated that,

it has been a FULL MOON here lately....
