Hi everyone!

Its Friday, but it just got better with the Lionel Volume 2 catalog coming out. So what are you getting?

I find it very neat how Lionel is offering a Legacy 2-6-0 Mogul. Now if we could only get them to model the SRC #89 either in Strasburg livery or Canadian National. Maybe next year!

I'm also liking the array of different road names this year, some of which I have never seen!

Have a great weekend!

I'll make a purchase when these marketers provide some new freight car tooling. I have acquired all the items through the years that always seem to be duplicated by the big 3. Looks like they copy each other or are told by the actual maker, this is what we are offering you this year. Take it or leave it?

As a PW fan and conventional operator there’s not much there for me. If I ran Legacy I’d definitely be in for one of the NW2’s. I’ll bet Lionel sells a ton of these.

I’ve got a number of Lion Chief Plus locos and may find one to order. It looks like there’s not much new in that line save for some tweaking of road names. Really hoping Lionel will expand the LC+ line in the next catalog by adding some new F units and other diesels.

I ordered several of the PS-1 sound box cars from Vol. 1 and may add another.

I second your comment. I run Legacy and TMCC part of the time, but I love conventional toy trains.  Because Lionel has essentially abandoned the conventional toy train operator, I will be purchasing nothing from this catalog. NO PULLMOR! NO PURCHASE! NO MAGNE-TRACTION, NO MONEY! Sorry Lionel, but not everyone wants can motors, grimy tires, 0-72 curves, fragile trim and complicated electronics. I want growling, sparks and ozone! Lionel seems to think their postwar fans are all retired, broke or dead. Not true. I'm 45, have money to spend, and love this stuff.

There's way too much in the secondary market. Shop there.

I collect PW myself, but buy scale and modern. Obviously Lionel has figured out that there is no money to be made in making Pullmor, magnetraction, ozone throwbacks. There are so many out there at way cheaper prices than Lionel could make them for new. Plus, why would you want a new Pullmor motor made in China? I like the old American made motors. That's what the ozone reminds me of.

The scale, fragile (because the details are SCALE), complicated behemoths are here to stay because that's what people want. Just because what you want isn't good for business doesn't make them wrong.

My post wasn't a judgment of right vs. wrong. I am not admonishing Lionel, just a making a statement of preference. They can devote all the resources they please to the scale stuff, Nascar, or those silly roller coasters. Fishing reels is probably next. Their business, their call. They are not focused on classic toy trains because Lionel is not currently led by a man who respects this aspect of the hobby. His background is NASCAR toys.

The secondary market is great, and so were new remakes of old trains. In fact, nice remakes like the Conventional Classics series were a terrific experience for those of us too young to have had the experience of buying a "new" postwar type train. Just try and find a nice, reasonably priced, postwar UP anniversary set that hasn't been all beat up by some "baby-boomer" kid years ago. Forget it.

Nothing. This isn't just moonshine - I bought the last new (from the waist up) steamer that they offered - the USRA Heavy Mike.

I am essentially a buyer only for new steam tooling (NYC H-10 Mikado; NYC K-5 Pacific), not much else (a NYC S-3 electric would get my money;  I have the S-1 and S-2; need some closure). I have enough rolling stock.
