I have a pair of the CCII PRR Sharks. The second A unit would lurch around a lot at a pretty even interval. Upon spinning the flywheel of the rear truck I felt some binding. With the motor removed from the truck, all is well. No binding from either part. When put together, well blah.
These were supposedly never run.

Probably cracked on installation. Looks like bronze from here.
Plastic gears will shrink and crack over time, unless aged before cutting.
@rplst8, you can see that you are not alone in this be looking over here, but it seems there is a solution in Lionel part 610-8274-080

My Sharks are back on the rails, I decided to do both, got the gear and a new truck. I put the new truck on and rebuilt the old one with the gear as a spare. Next split gear I'm covered.
