My problem is that as long as I have had the DCS system, the only way my remote can find and "talk" to the TIU is if I have a coil style phone cord connecting both of them. My components were purchased about 11 years ago. Used a few times a year for a couple years, then put in to storage. So in November I decided to get them out, build a small layout and play with the things that i have had for 12 to 15 years. Every things seems to work as I remember, I just have to use the phone cord for it all to work. My equipment Has NEVER been upgraded. I don't even know what version I have, (can someone tell me how/where to find this info) but seems to run my 4 starter set just fine. Would an up grade help? or is there another fix? The TIU,AIU & remote were purchased at the same time so they are all 11-12 years old.

Thanks

Tim

Tim,

It would appear that the transceiver board in the TIU, remote, or both has floated out of its socket and needs to be reseated.

This was all-too-common in the original issue DCS sets. Their transceiver boards would lift up slightly due to jostling during shipping.

The DCS O Gauge Companion, either edition, discus how to correct this problem without making things worse.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Sounds like you need to re-seat the RC boards in one or both units.

Generally it's the remote as those take more abuse.

I recommend you buy Barry's DCS Companion at MTH's website.

It has instructions for this and much much more info that you will find useful about using DCS.

HA ! Barry ya beat me again, I type too slow !

Your remote should tell you what version it is as soon as you turn it on. Not so with the tiu.   The Initial version of dcs was 2.0 back in april 02, it only lasted about a month or less then came 2.1 with a tiu reset. Remember the lost ghost engines guys?
