I just received a supposed new RK Santa Fe F3 with PS3 and, when I put it on the program track, there's no communication with the TIU. I checked the instruction sheet and it said flip the switch on the bottom from DCC to DCS if there is no response. When I looked there is no switch, only an empty hole where it should have been.  Any thoughts on this? Has somebody swapped boards as the engine runs in on variable AC transformer power and make sounds and lights or is there some other problem?

Well here's what I found. Yes, it does operate in conventional mode and I was able to program it with a second TIU. Both are older serial models and the one I want to use on a separate layout with the SF F3 PS3 will program PS2 Locos fine, but for some reason doesn't recognize PS3 locos. Does this TIU need an update to fix it or does it have some other problem?

You should always ensure that all TIUs and DCS Remotes on a layout have the same level of DCS software. Otherwise, unexpected results may occur.

OKay, here's the latest with this ongoing saga. I finally got all the cables, etc. to do an update to the TIU and remote and I down loaded DCS 5.0 to them per MTH's instructions. When I went to program the SF F3 with PS3, the Remote just kept looking for the engine and never found it.  Plus, it locked up and I had to remove the batteries to shut it off. The remote's screen read DCS 5.0, so I assume it's installed. Also, I tried a previously programmed UP E6 with PS2 and it goes direct to startup and the remote doesn't have any control of it. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

You're doing something wrong.  The current version of the Loader program is 5.0, but the current version of the DCS software for the remote and for the TIU is 6.1.  On boot-up, your remote should read 6.1, and if you go to TIU setup and check that version, it should also be 6.1.

When I downloaded  the loader program 5.0,  I also down loaded DCS 5.0 that was with it. I figured I'd see if that worked before I went to 6.1.

When you applied power with this TIU did the engine stay quiet or did it start up as if in conventional?  Does this TIU work with other engines?  Could be a degraded TIU, could be a PS-3 diesel with wire harness interference with signal strength if one of the early PS-3 models.  G

The PS 3 SF F3 engine from 2013 stayed quiet, but the previously programmed PS2 UP E6 did a start up. The PS3 diesel runs fine in conventional mode.

That’s not correct. MTH does not have DCS 5.0 on their website. They have Loader program 5.0 and DCS 6.1.

Further, once you download both the Loader Program and DCS, you must use the former to install the latter.
