Hi Guys!

So we have an MTH SP GS-4 that we converted to TMCC using an ERR board.  For the past few weeks, it's been running fine.  You could do basic functions of forward and backward, whistle and bell. Today my son was running it and it would not function under the TMCC control.  There was sound but the only speed control came directly from the transformer.  It would not respond to the remote.  I put a different TMCC loco on and it worked fine.  The remote did was it was supposed to do.  I checked the wiring and nothing has gone amiss from what I can tell.  I cannot reprogram the engine because the minute I apply power the engine starts going.  Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks for your help!

It does sound like it’s not receiving the TMCC signal. Start with the antenna connections and then the R4LC. Having a spare one of those is pretty handy for testing.

Hi CJack

I pulled another R4LC chip from another loco and it worked just fine.  So I think that board is bad.  The board is fairly new within warranty, so would I have to replace both boards or just get a new R4LC?

Thanks

Roger

Seeing it’s an MTH Steam conversion. Are you using the tender shell for the antenna ?  If you are. Remove the shell and see if it runs correctly. You may have to check as to how the shell is isolated from the chassis.

Yes I did remove the shell and test it that but still no dice.  AS you can see above I switched a R4LC from another loco and it worked so I'll have to see what the next step is....
