There are some additional issues beyond the charging issue and I think that is why Lionel continues to service the Legacy Systems even beyond the one year period.

the reason that Mike Reagan has decided to service the Legacy system after the one year warranty is he has said you can not run your trains without a system to run them.

there has been no issues with my two units.  club members have had no issues with theirs and they have had theirs since they got it with the bigboy.

I always thought that TMCC was better, because of signal problems. I don't recall having any 'ground plane' problems before Legacy. To me it kind of proves that the signal strength is better. You can operate Cab-1 from your kitchen, while your trains are in your basement. I know, who would want to do that(?..hmmm). I still have a Cab-1 remote which works well with Legacy - without the powerbridge!! With Legacy you have a visual look of what you are controlling. I'm not giving up on Legacy, it will be improved on.

The problems i am referring to I have seen here.  Including some problems with incorrect information on the display, having to reset locos to get them to run, poor signal, interference with florescent lights, having to add "ground plane" wires to get signal etc.

I'm going mostly by the number of requests for help on Legacy problems. Maybe most of these are operator difficulty.   I have TMCC and so far only operator problems. The only thing I do not like about TMCC is that the CAB1 has no feedback, no lights, nothing to tell you you have sent a valid command. ( yes the red light on the zw-c flashes but no display of any sort)   Don

Maybe you could be specific as to the additional issues with Legacy.

Never claimed anything.

The other issues have been discussed numerous times on this forum. Remotes that don't start, broken glass, loss of signal just to name a few. There is one other issue that has not been discussed but I choose not to post it since it was revealed to me in a private e-mail. I decided to keep the information to myself. You and others can take it anyway you want.

Just an FYI. Prior to any of these various groups being formed, meetings held and  question and answering sessions I was privileged to be part of a small group of hobbiest that were the first to be introduced to the Legacy system. This was before Regan, Jon Z or anyone else that Lionel currently has on board.

Clearly the best way is with a grain of salt.   So called "secret" BS is usually just that.

you said it better then what I was thinking.

OK, no secret BS. I'm sorry that you took it that way. Perhaps it might be better described as a cause and effect rather than an issue. I asked what the reason for the failure of my Legacy remote was and they answered the question. I've told a few people in person but don't want to post on a public forum since there is no privacy.

So, take it or shove it I don't give a ****.

I must agree, I had several issues with my Legacy system but don't see the need to post everything. If I see a posting on a similar problem to what happened to mine I would consider a post. One issue was the charging problem, my system went to Lionel and was repaired and returned to me in about four weeks. This system, along with TMCC, is responsible for me having a greatly renewed interest in the model railroading hobby. I use the Legacy/TMCC exclusively with S gauge and have to have some repairs done on engines also but all in all I've been quite satisfied with it. I really like the fact that I can take my AC Gilbert post war engines and run them with my wireless remote without modification to the engines. One thing that I know, and this is from my working history, having manufacturing done half way across the world you lose some of the quality control.

I do believe Lionel is doing their best to rectify the problems that we experience with the system.

The only issue that I have had with TMCC is with certain locomotives not liking 50Hz power frequency.

The first Legacy scale Big Boys needed a fix to the smoke unit to work correctly on 50hz.

I would really like Mike R. or Jon Z. to explain what causes the 50Hz issues with some of those TMCC engines. Just so I know what to say when people ask me at train shows!

I know the TMCC crane has had a new 50Hz compatible board made available.

I understand Albracht in Germany has replaced the guts of some of the problem TMCC locos with Legacy boards.

I just run my layout on 60Hz as I have the inverter set up for this anyway. But it would be handy to be able to advise newbies on this side of the pond with the correct

information.

Nick

My Legacy was flawless until the backlight went out a year after purchase ... Lionel sent one back (another controller not the original one) and the entire middle column didn't work ... so it was back to Lionel ... they sent me another one (still had a sticker from some club on it!) and when I tried addressing the engines the last number would always default to the number 4.  So it's back to Lionel and I've currently been waiting to hear back.  I wish I would have never sent it in.

I have run into another problem with the Legacy which others may have had. I had a charger which stopped charging but also the Legacy control would operate Legacy engines as it should, when I would have a TMCC engine operating with Legacy remote the sounds would be inconsistent. When I put the same engine back under TMCC remote control sounds operated as they should.
When Legacy came back from repair I charged up the batteries and all was as it should be if I immediately turned on remote. If I would let unit set overnight the remote would not light up, I thought to replace batteries since they were two years old but to no avail. I checked battery voltage 24 hrs after charge and all were over 1.2 volts and at that state the remote would not light up. I did call Lionel and they had me return unit with both sets of batteries. it is with them now. I do appreciate that Lionel is standing behind these systems beyond warranty.

First release systems needed firmware upgrades.  Issues with batter chargers, yes.  I've never had issues with the cab-2 controlling older loco's as that's the only kind I have.

I get the impression that most of the issues are related to the system being more complex and users not reading the manual.  I realy, realy wish that Lionel had gone back to the origan TMCC "bible" for inspiration on writing up the new docs.  There is a fair amount of  important Legacy differences strwen throughout the new manual.  It is interspersed with new features that some people are less interested in and thet basically stop reading.

Just got my Legacy back from Lionel, work order said that they were able to repeat the problem that I was having. The service department supplied a replacement hand set. Thank you Lionel for your efforts. I am an AF guy but I salute Lionel and their service department.
