Others not that bad. wrong the tender on one burnt something I smelled smoke. These are not great engines just plain ones. They are not needed for the layout.Or should I not bother and some day buy an engine on sale?  Sonny

If youy have an old PS2 loco, it probably had the 5-volt board.  If it smells bad, the board probably went.  Cheapest cure is to buy a PS2 steam upgrade kit for about $160 (MTHRRClub price) and install it your self.  RailKing diesels are probably not worth repairing.

Another suggestion is to ship the 4 to someone like GGG or GRJ for analysis and estimate.  Problems on other locos could be something simple.

Rail KIng locos have varying values.  If you were to post the model numbers, you could get advice on whether they are worth fixing, or possibly values.

Above, where I said, "RailKing diesels are probably not worth repairing," I should have added "if the board has failed, but they do have some value."
