Thinking about building a layout using O27 tubular track...I just noticed this roll of cork that might work well to cover the plywood top to deaden the sound.  Seems easy to work with and doesn't seem messy. The manufacturer is QEP 72000Q & the size is a roll of 4 ft x 50 ft.

Anyone use it before?

Tom,

Used Cork under my 0 and 027 layouts long ago, works well but the Cork does degrade over time as your layout ages.

Acquired some old Acoustical tile from an old Westinghouse plant when they discarded it and I was rebuilding the layout.  Got to tell ya it works a lot better especially with the new FasTrack.  It deadened the Conventional Tubular 027 and 0 Gauge sound so much it was incredible, twice what the Cork was able to due.

Tom- my layout is only two years old so I'm on the short end of time in use. I am ballasting all of my track so it is covered up. So far what is still exposed is fine. Since cork is a natural product I would expect that it will get dry and brittle as it ages.

We just put a cork floor down in one of our buildings and it is holding up well so far. It has a clear sealer on it.
