You've got to love a kid who picks the Chessie System as his favorite RR.
It's been a busy week in Plasticville.
Transferring freight from my Valley Railway, across the aisle, to his Sassafras Creek Railroad.
Here is updated picture's of my K-line Clinchfield Die-cast 2 Bay Hopper With Coal.I put new lionel trucks on. The other trucks was croded up pretty bad.
Not much doing this week....busy at work.....here is an old favorite. One of my favorite liveries...New York Central....Jade Green, with the cigar band.
This was taken in May, 1984 while traveling from Philly to Buffalo. I stopped in Rochester to get some fast food and saw this small freight yard across the street.

Golden Gate Depot El Cap cars shipped this week. I got the original run in Santa Fe and the 2nd run in Amtrak. I haven't had time to get all the cars out yet so please forgive my poor cell phone photos.

Made a lot of progress on that back corner last weekend! Nice to take some pics & have actual scenery
Started working on the road into town & the passenger platform area as well. This week, I plan to get the rest of the hillside finished along the back & do some ballasting
Early postwar looks very realistic if placed in the right setting -
NS ES44DC 7544 leads 213 westbound through Wernersville, PA on the Reading line
The Conrail heritage unit sits outside the engine shop in Bluefield yard
NS SD70M 2588 (1 of only 10 non flared radiator SD70Ms on NS) leads an eastbound manifest through Shawsville, VA on the Christiansburg District
NS 188 heads eastbound at Coopers, WV with Dash-9 9417 leading & the Interstate heritage unit trailing
N&W 611 heads northbound through Jamestown, NC on the Piedmont Mainline
A shot you can no longer get now - NS 12G ducks under the not long for this world PRR signal bridge at CP PORT w/ Dash-9 9393 leadingChristopher
Christopher,
I must have missed the start of your new layout. Any photos and information posted?
Mike
Another awesome job Alex.
Happy Friday to all!

Last of the Steam Powered Trains

I was born just a bit too late to really experience steam. The only time I ever saw a steam locomotive in actual service was when i was ten, in 1958. I was with my cousins in Maple Shade New Jersey. The railroad ran just a few hundred feet from my Uncle's coal yard. I cannot recall the exact type, but I believe it was an 0-6-0 switcher. As it came by us, cinders rained down on us. I will never forget that experience.
It's Friday and the Photo Fun has begun!! Very nice pics and videos everyone!!
LOVE THE RUST DK, wonder who did those gems?
Great looking detail-scenery Don. Well done.
More pics of the RC3R's new corner scenery. It is infested with Homie Clowns. At work, when it's an especially crazy day the standard expression is "OK, who let the clowns loose again"?
I want to take this opportunity to thank Menards for their two buildings. They served as the inspiration for this scenery. IMHO they deserve to be recognized to their contribution to our hobby.
Further thanks to RC3R club member Walt for the beautiful job he did on the Korber Silos. They represent the coal bunkers for our boiler house.
Nice stuff Tom, always good to see some industrial items!
Sirt,
Thank you so much for your kind words.

Additional work on my friend Tom's layout. Just about every thing pictured was on a layout some where else. Quite an adventure. Mike CT. Most of the litho work was done at a local print shop. Part of the week was spent dismantling/removing my friend Matt's layout, . Shelving pictured was Matt's.
Tom had fabricated this super street section, and the back drops. The two of us set it in place. There is more city scene to be added.

I am very jealous of all the nice work you guys have presented ,
I am waiting for the snow to go, and the warm weather to return so I can uncover my set up, clean the tracks and begin running my trains once again
last year i had a bit water problem, but the inside look to be fairly dry this time around so hopefully not much work will be needed before I can put a unit on the tracks...
Here's a nice photo from an old friend of mine who is not 'into trains' particularly but sent this to me recently. Don't know where it was taken (Rockies in the background?) but it's a favorite of mine. He enjoys working an image to suit him. Click on it to enlarge so you can appreciate the surface textures and subtle color shifts.
A few weeks ago, I posted some images of a highway bridge I was building which carried Pennsylvania state route 35 over the Pennsy at Mifflin PA, circa 1966. I had to repaint the backdrop in this area as I ended up constructing the bridge about 6 inches to the left of where I had originally anticipated it would be placed. (The backdrop was painted over 10 years ago!).
So here are a few shots showing the bridge as it looks now with the revised backdrop. Though there is a bit of work to be done on the superstructure, in this view, it's pretty much finished aside from placement of the railings. They are a precise copy of a type of railing used by the PA Department of highways between around 1963-68 and the stanchions were built by my son Steven using a 3D printer. To avoid damaging them, they won't be installed until all of the scenery around the bridge is completed.
Great eye candy so far. Sneaking this in before I have to get off the computer again, the fun of being a parent.
Life in a Northern Town.
C.Sam, that looks like a Frisco number plate on the front. Someone on the forum ought to know where Frisco 1351 resides.

Great Job guys, terrific pictures. You gave me some good ideas, I'm starting to rearrange my work room so I can build an around the walls layout. My biggest problem will be figuring out rather to put in a lift out where the door is or a lift-up or drop down. Happy weekend.

The photo is heavily photo-shopped. The engine resides in Colliersville, TN, and there is most certainly NOT a backdrop such as that anywhere near Colliersville, TN.
Picked up a new loco yesterday. MTH has improved their sound on this latest round. I noticed much clearer voices and a deeper bass. Looking forward to getting the Metra cars when they arrive.

You can tell it was enhanced to show what would of been its operating environment, but that's ok. Its still a cool pic.

Peter, Thanks I glad someone enjoys them. As for lighting, room has a big picture type window and just let the sun shine in. Nothing special. Night shots are different but essentially the same. Using natural light, in this case the lights from the street lights and other lighting from the layout. Time of day also effects the natural lighting, in this case was shoot around 9 in the morning and was cloudy outside, some of the video had been shoot a week ago and it was sunny at the time. Looking at it now I only used 2 scenes from the previous weeks video. I like shooting at ground level as it( at least for me) a little more realistic, things I learned from Erik( 2R Forum)and his pics from his clubs layout and modules. . Music, I am a product of having spent most of my active Army career stationed in Germany. (1992--2009) with a 25 mo oversea tour at Ft Hood Tx (Nov 94 thru Feb 97) Returned overseas and was stationed at MacDill AFB until I retired in 2013.
Thanks to all for the great pics/videos this weekend!
Thanks, Scott, for starting us off every Friday!

Peter,
As I posted earlier, I don't know when Christopher started his new layout but I have followed each build and what he gets accomplished in the amount of time from start to finish is amazing. No one does it faster!

We took our close to home trips recently.
First stop was Pine Island. From there we headed to one of our favorite towns in Trenton, FL.
Beach at Pine Island
Below is an old engine used to haul logs to the Mill.
Below is the old town station in Trenton, FL that is no longer a station in use, but an attraction.
An old ice house near the Trenton station
On the way home we spotted this caboose along US19.
Nice NS, been to Pine Island many times years ago.
Where is that caboose on 19? How did I miss that? Looks like the one that was at the Tampa yard entrance on SR-60 in Brandon. Brooksville had a few SCL relics back in the day too.
Good find!
Steve
Steve, That caboose is located about 20 miles north of Crystal River (on southbound side of hwy). I wonder if that is a fairly new display as I do not recall seeing it about a year ago.
