The last Weekend Photo Fun before York; where does the time go?

 002

Here is my latest projects. I added an enhancement to the flags on the front of my standard gauge Texas, a Confederate flag.

I also relettered a set of McCoy Passenger cars for the Western & Atlantic. If I was starting this project over I would repaint rather than reletter-the cars would look better with gold paint and a red-brown paint on the roof to match the tender.

While many kids like the General from the great locomotive chase, I have always be a fan of the Texas. As a kid I remember seeing it in the basement of the Cyclorama in Atlanta. I remember my dad told me at the time it was just a model and I disagreed with him telling him it was the real Texas. I was right, it was the real thing.

Let's see your pictures.

Construction projects abound on my layout...

Adding cross bracing to the trestle bridge.  The deck hasn't been finished out yet but engines are running across it!

The yard decided to give a large Denmark company a shot at supplying its new gantry crane.  Everything seems to be working great as the main structure is in place.  The only complaint is the guys who put it in from Denmark kept singing about how "everything is awesome" and then insisted on a parting shot once done.  Terry was about to test the foreman's hardhat with that pipe if he started one more round of that song!

It looks better than expected.  Needs some details added to fit in I think?  What do you guys think?  Look too toyish?  For $20 I figured it was something to try and play around with.

Like several of others on the Forum, I started a complete rebuild of my layout last year.  Here are a couple of shots of where I am on the rebuild.

I've gone from a rural to a more urban theme and this is the rail yard level of my to be downtown Chicago scene.  The subway line can be seen on the lower level with the passenger terminal tracks on the right and passenger yard on the left.  To be added will be the third level which will have the "downtown" scene.

The second photo is of the engine terminal area with the turntable, roundhouse and other structures saved from the old layout.  Fortunately, I have finished the wonderful task of soldering track and switch power connections to all of this.

A 2014 Christmas Layout memory

An different view of "Waltburg" from the one used last week:

Week 6_1

This week I'll show the model of my son's house.  The 2 kids playing soccer: their son and daughter play soccer so I got 2 Artista figures and painted them in the correct colors and added on correct numbers for each. And, like my other grandson, this one is a Spiderman fan too, thus the figurine:

Absolutely incredible scene.  I've commented on your wonderful layout before but this is one of the best scenes yet!  What and how did you paint the track?  Looks real...

PeterA: You have a fantastic layout!  I can't wait to see more of it!  You should post a 'layout build thread' if you haven't-I'd like to see some details!

ALL:  THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE WEEKLY THREADS!

Thanks for the comment 86TA355SR.  For those of us in the middle of layout rebuilding, here are a couple of shots of the transition.  The first is a small portion of the scenery taken from the old layout waiting to be taken to the waste transfer station.  It filled the back of my pickup truck in addition to the large sections given to a couple of friends.

The second shot is of the "holding area" for buildings waiting to be placed in their new locations.  Such fun!

Trains To The Russian River by Fred A. Stindt is a wonderful little booklet that pictures life on the broad-gauge Guerneville Branch of the Northwestern Pacific before 1935 plus the narrow gauge before 1930.  If I were to paint a large white five-point star on the smoke box door, my locomotive would look much like the one on the book’s cover.

Thanks for the comments about this photo.  The rail is painted with Floquil rail brown which has unfortunately been discontinued.  A few other points of interest.  The scene is set in the twilight of the Pennsy.  The billboard is promoting the election of Milton Shapp for governor in 1966 along with his running mate, Leonard Staisey, all of which is historically correct. The red auto is a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang.  All of this helps to set the scene as being in the mid 1960's.  BTW, Shapp lost the election, but ran again in 1970, at which time he won.
