Peter,

Was just getting ready to post some pictures of my own, but then came across what you posted. Wow, thanks for all the images! I appreciate you posting them and sharing them with the OGR Forum members. It was great to have you visit, and the best thing is all of the friends such as you that I've made through the hobby over many years.

(Oh great it's that guy building his grain elevator again!)

Yeah but look I 3d printed a sign for each side at the top and it's looking better!   I custom designed a sign using my printer and used my late grandfather's name, E.E. Lacey.  I know you can already tell I'm kinda proud of this cause I keep posting these dang pictures but it's looking better every day!  I have a few more details to add such as vent hoods on top maybe.

IMG_0178

The raised lettering of the sign made it super easy to paint the letters.  Just touch the top with the brush, or a paint pen in this case.

Pennsy4-8-4...any idea where this photo was taken? Perhaps Millerstown on the Middle Division?

Hello Neal.  Probably somewhere on the Middle Division. That's actually a picture I took of my TV screen while watching the green frog "The Pennsylvania Railroad" which is videos by Emery Gulash.  I will try to take a look at the video later and see if the narrator mentions where this is.  I think he mentions the locations very often in the video and there are several often repeated hot spots on there.

So far I haven’t smelled the pungent odor of the grape crush, but the harvest is in full swing so it won’t be long. Track maintenance crummy in this area so 10 mph speed limit. My layout isn’t big enough to feature a vineyard, but do have a short row of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that are just visible between the switcher and the reefer. Have a nice dry weekend, everyone.

Chris,

Thanks for you comments on my backdrop.

Jeff,

Thanks for responding to my question about that photo. The type of highway truss bridge seen at the left of the image was used to cross the lower Juniata River at Mifflintown, Port Royal,  Millerstown, and Newport. There was one at Thompsontown, but I believe it was a recycled PRR bridge and was different than the one shown in the picture. Anyhow, if you look at the topography behind the town as well as the linear fashion in which it is laid out, I think its Millerstown, but I could be wrong.

Unfortunately, that photo can't be duplicated today, since when they ripped out the line poles, they stopped maintiaining the right of way where they were mounted, so today it is all overgrown with trees.

Neal, I was mistaken about the video, it is shown in Steam on Horseshoe Curve by Sunday River Productions (not Green Frog's "The Pennsylvania Railroad").  They don't say where, but its in the section showing M1's and says they were used mainly East of Altoona, and Millerstown is East of Altoona.  I'm guessing you might have these videos, so take a look!

Jeff,

Thanks for filling me in. Yes Millerstown is quite a bit east of Altoona. I'll look through my videos and see what I have.

I am buying a house 6 miles from there in Elizabethtown PA. I need to buy one of them AEC trains. it is also under the flight path of Harrisburg airport, and right next to the old PRR main to Chicago. trains run there from 90 to 100 MPH. Why would I want a house there, the wife likes it, what else. I figure if a plane falls from the sky, train derails , or #2 reactor pops it cork, I will not have to worry anymore about cutting the grass.

After my newly acquired JLC GG1 (PRR 4866) arrived with truck frames disintegrating due to zinc rot, I finally got the issue resolved last night on both of my GG1's with new truck frames for both.

IMG_6755

The worst of the trucks on 4866.  All other ones were showing signs of swelling and cracking.  4925 had become much worse since the last time I looked at it closely and was getting close to the same condition.

IMG_6756

Rear coupler was also cracked fro what appeared to be the same issue.

IMG_6757

Out with the old.

IMG_6758

Finally on display until I have a chance to run it.
