OK so I'm early again.
The access hatch on my layout doesn't function, since all the buildings sit on top of it.
So I am reworking it by gluing the buildings down and making it functional.

The Christmas blizzard of '22 is just starting to hit Wilburville as the "Chief" pulls in....the weather people are calling the storm a once in a century event
I ran two models of Maine Central locomotives on my 12’-by-8’ layout this week.
My diecast model of Maine Central 2-8-0 steam locomotive #501 was made by Weaver Models. It’s a model of a Baldwin locomotive similar to the full-size #501 and has a great steam whistle and steam sounds. It’s pulling two boxcars and an Atlas O model of Maine Central caboose #670, which came along after #501 was retired.
I also ran a model of Maine Central F3 diesel locomotive #686 that was delivered by MTH (20-21458-1) in 2020 with PS3 at MSRP $469.95. It’s pulling two MTH Boston & Maine heavyweight passenger cars on my layout. The Maine Central operated under a “joint management” agreement with the Boston & Maine Railroad beginning in 1933.
Maine Central 2-8-0 #501 was one of 9 Class W locomotives manufactured for the MEC by Alco at Schenectady in 1910. It was retired in 1954. The engine weight was 193,000 pounds and the total locomotive weight was 333,000 pounds. It produced 37,000 pounds of tractive force at a boiler pressure of 185 pounds-per-square-inch and rode on 63-inch-diameter driving wheels. During 2022, MEC #501 was moved for restoration to the roundhouse of the Conway Scenic Railroad in North Conway, New Hampshire.
Maine Central #686 was built in 1948, retired in 1965, and scrapped.

Since I celebrate Hanukkah rather than Christmas, I’ve never had photos of a layout that I set up around a Christmas tree…until just a few years ago. A friend of mine who never had a train under their tree, but always wanted one asked for my help, so I jumped at the opportunity. I bought them a Lionel starter set that always caught my eye…The Pennsylvania Keystone which features a PRR Lionel 0-8-0, a box car, flatcar with floodlight, and an N5c caboose. The engine is really nice looking. Anyhow, I set it up under their tree, and here's a picture of it:
Over the past couple of years, I gave them a tank car and then a gondola (to fill with Christmas colored Hershey Kisses.) So now, I can finally say that I set up a Lionel train under a Christmas tree!
This isn't exactly my regular kind of post...that will follow...but I hope that you enjoy!
OK, here’s my regular post. I’m upgrading the lighting in the layout room, and as such, I had to open up an access hatch right next to my roundhouse to replace the existing lighting fixture. This allowed me to take photos of structures I’ve never photographed before or take shots from angles that I haven’t had access to in years. So here ya go…
First, here’s the interior of my roundhouse (don't think I ever posted a photo of this before):

My brilliance sometimes amazes me. I saw this SP&S 4-12-2 steam engine in the 2021 Lionel Volume II catalog. It was so cool looking that I had to have it and ordered one from my good friends at Eastside Trains. However, I did not read the fine print in the catalog. First it was not an engine that the SP&S actually ran, it was a "fantasy" engine. I did not notice that until I was doing some research on the SP&S and could not find the engine number and reread the description. Fair enough, the engine looks great and could have run Spokane to Portland route which had some beasts run that route. The other problem was one that I knew about, it only runs on 72-inch curves, while my layout has 54-inch curves. My thinking at the time was that I would buy 72-inch FasTrack curves and run the engine in the living room, around the Christmas tree (it's also a small tree). Well, I have everything I need, but did not have the time to put the track in the living room. So, that will have to wait until next year. Meanwhile, I have a nice display case from "showcaseproducts.com" in my office where the beauty sits until called into duty next Christmas.

This week’s RARE find! Made several requests to MTH for some B&M items in recent times, crickets. Found this on another site and grabbed it. As usual, another win for me, and another loss for the suppliers. Added updates, another figure, weathering and flat clear.

Great Big GreenHouse is located in the Bon Air/Midlothian section of northern Chesterfield County......at the intersection of Robious & Huguenot Rds.......the same shopping center as a Sheetz, Publix, Starbucks and an Outback Steakhouse.
If you are coming from Culpepper, I'd get to I-64 east via 522 or 15 and travel east till you get to Route 288. Take Route 288 south.....the 1st exit over the James is Route 711, Robious Rd......we're about 5 miles east of there.....
