From pages 112-113 of The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition:

8. Super TIU Mode

As discussed earlier in this book, PS2 engines can usually only be controlled by the DCS Remote when they are on tracks that are connected to the TIU with which they were associated the last time the engine was added to a DCS Remote. When operating large layouts that utilize more than one TIU, this limitation can result in serious restrictions on where PS2 engines can be operated on the layout.

In order to remove these restrictions DCS includes a feature called Super TIU mode that ignores the entire PS2 engine/TIU association issue, allowing PS2 engines to operate anywhere on the layout. In effect, it makes the layout look as if there is one master TIU controlling DCS over the entire layout rather than several individual

TIUs.

Why Use Super TIU Mode?

Large layouts often require more than one TIU for effective operation of DCS. These large layouts may also have a track plan that allows PS2 engines to move from tracks connected to their associated TIU to tracks connected to a different TIU. When this occurs, the operator would normally lose the ability to control a PS2

engine when it crosses from the tracks controlled by one TIU to the tracks controlled by another TIU. Super TIU mode allows all PS2 engines on the layout to be controlled from all DCS Remotes regardless of where the engines are on the layout.

How Super TIU Mode Works

As previously discussed, PS2 engine commands issued by a DCS Remote are received by all TIUs on the layout. However, when TIUs are set to normal TIU mode only the TIU with which the PS2 engine was last associated actually forwards the command to the engine. If the engine isn't on a powered track connected to its associated

TIU, the command cannot be received and the PS2 engine does not respond, the DCS Remote times out and an error message such as "OUT OF RANGE" or "ENGINE NOT ON TRACK" is displayed on the Engine Control Screen.

When TIUs are in Super TIU mode, all TIUs forward all commands to PS2 engines received from all DCS Remotes to the PS2 engine, regardless of whether or not the PS2 engine is associated with the TIU. This ensures that any PS2 engine that is powered up and on tracks connected to any TIU on the layout will receive the command.
