Purchase another Legacy engine which I hope to Lashup with my mogul  when she comes back.

Lionel NH ten wheeler 2015 vintage.   Enjoy.

After a few loops around the layout and a lube job, she's a darn good crawler, which I hope the mogul will match once repaired.

Well, there is something to be said for loyalty, and I applaud you for that.  And I must say, I liked that video. Looks like a real nice engine.  Long may she run. If it's a she that is.  Hard to tell sometimes these days.  Cheers

being a 2015 product, and no long WTH threads about it the last few years.  I had no worries purchasing it.   Now to watch out for the light mikado over the next couple of months.

Gary, after seeing this thread I decided to see how my ten wheelers would run with my Odyssey Mogul. I think I gained some insight on on the new Mogul.

I have both Odyssey and Legacy ten wheelers. Also Odyssey and Legacy L2a Mohawks. I can run my Mohawks together  and Ten Wheelers together by putting the Legacy engines in TMCC mode.

The Mogul will not run with any of the Ten Wheelers, Odyssey or Legacy. I have to set the Ten Wheelers at three speed steps to match the Mogul running at one speed step.

Since  you can supposedly lashup any Legacy engine I believe the new Mogul has a different gear ratio from the old odyssey version. I know the motor is different. The old one has a small Pittman motor and the new one has the common Mabuchi.

Its already been reported that the fasteners are different on the two Moguls.

This doesn't explain the lockup issue but may help explain why the early one runs fine. It has different parts from the new engine.

Rick, I didn't actually couple the engines up. Just ran them a few inches apart to see if they run at the same speed. Back drivable gears might give smoother running but unless the speeds are pretty close they will still fight each other.

One thing I learned about this test is I will be looking for another Odyssey engine rather than a Legacy version if I want to double head the Moguls.
