Hello, I have a set of 7 CP aluminum passenger cars from Williams, I am finding that the pick ups are very lose that when they turn the 42 Lionel switch they short out the track power, prior to myself taking them apart and trying to figure it out I thought maybe someone on here may have run into this and found a solution.

thank you

I have two sets of Williams passenger cars with interior lighting and have no problems with them, they are from the Crown Edition era of Williams.

What Lionel switch in particular are you using? Like a post war switch or a newer switch with a five or six digit number.

If a newer switch it could be the switch itself, especially if it is 6-23010 & 6-23011, as the 1990's and newer Lionel switches had been problems for me until I sold them off.

I am now using Gargraves switches and track.

It is likely that the width of the rollers is what is causing the problem. They are considerably wider than Lionel. It probably is shorting as you roll through the curve of the switch. On the cars, I am not sure there is going to be a fix. With engines you can replace them with post war verticle shaft motor collectors and rollers with a bit of work.
