I have an operating billboard that flips from one message to another when power is applied. I would like to have it change only once every time a train activates it via insulated rail, instead of constantly changing as long as a train is in the block. I have an Atlas snap relay, but I'm not sure it is meant for constant power. Any one have a suggestion?

In that case please see my blog at JC studios. Go to the electrical section and see the post using push button timers up to 180 seconds. Use the simple basic circuit. Activate the timer circuit by the insulated rail method and set the pot for the length of time desired.

Can also be done without a timer, using 2 relays and some capacitors. I am away on my daughters computer so I can not post a direct link.

Parts cost $16 or less to make up.
