I am installing DCS in a club layout.  I want to use Z4K tracks to control conventional engines.  I just read the Z4K tracks setup and operation section of the DCS Companion.  I understand that I can assign the left handle of the Z400 to Track 1 and the Right handle to Track 2.

The club is going to have a yard powered by the left handle and the main will be powered by the right.  The reason for this setup is so that power will be shared between the handles when operating in DCS or TMCC mode.

Is there a way to assign both the main and the yard to the same track number so that a conventional engine leaving the yard will see the same voltage from both handles?  Can I assign both handles to Track 1, for example?  I expect that we will be running only one conventional engine at a time on the layout.

I know that my my operators including visitors and children will not understand how to shift between Track 1 and 2 when running a train into or out of the yard.  I am looking for the ability to hand them a DCS Remote set for Z4K remote mode and tell them to scroll the thumbwheel to run their train without further instruction.

Thanks.  Joe

Joe,

No, a Z4K Track cannot control both handles of a Z4000. However, there is a way to have multiple Z4000 handles controlled by one Z4K Track.

What you can do is have one Z4K Track control multiple left or right handles of two or more Z4000s.

For example, you could set up 2 Z4K Tracks where Z4K Track #1 would control the left handle of 2 (or 3 or 4 or...) different Z4000s and Z4K Track #2 would control the right handles of all of those Z4000s.

Since you have a copy of The DCS O Gauge Companion, look at page 98 of the 2nd Edition or page 87 of the 1st Edition.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!
