It's Midweek Photo time again!

We begin this week's thread in the land of working horses, both iron horse and those in the flesh. Amish country of Pennsylvania. Last Saturday was opening day of the Strasburg Rail Road, and a few friends plus myself took in some of the railroad action.

This year began with former Great Western Sugar Co. 2-10-0 no. 90 in a very temporary costume dressed as she did in the end of her career with GW. A photo charter on Tuesday, Feb 19 made for this livery to be on the line. This is the crossing by the Red Caboose motel.

Leaman Place at the runaround location, and the Amtrak Philadelphia to Harrisburg mainline at the junction.

The whitewalls and the silver on the smokebox give her a distinctive look.

Not a favorite RailFan shot, but a nice view of the train in the landscape.

A nice bonus to the weekend was the addition of Francis L. Suter, the Pennsylvania RR office car, to the trains. It has a fireplace inside, and the combination of the coal smoke from the locomotive and the wood smoke of the fire made for a very aromatic weekend.

One of these days I will make it back East to see the steam operations. That PRR looks pretty cool! Not too much going on here the past week. I got caught up enough to take a couple of cameras out for a walk a few times though. Apparently we have another big snow storm headed our way tomorrow, and I'm waiting in eager anticipation! I have some night shots in mind. Until then, here's a few from the past week. 1. S/B train near Jasper, MN. This would make a cool night shot, I think! 2. S/B tanker train near Ruthton, MN. Lately I've been noticing that there's a lot more big long black tanker trains on my BNSF line. At first I just thought they were more ethanol tankers, but then I looked closer and saw "1267" hazmat signs on them. That means the new trains are hauling crude oil. 3. S/B grain train going through Struble, IA. I'd like to take this shot at night also. I mean, look like they named the elevator after me! This shot was taken with my vintage 1942 Leica IIIc on HP5 film, 90mm ELmar lens.
