A few years ago I heard Mike Wolf talk about making a European TINPLATE Line and I asked here how many people would like MTH to do so: many said they would like to see MARKLIN make the Reproductions; well now MTH is working on an agreement with MARKLIN to Badge their new Reproduction 1919 LEIPZIG Station and Boxes,

"Like MTH is doing for LIONEL"

, so how many here would like to see MTH make Marklin Badged Reproductions and other European Tinplate Engines & Cars, and maybe in Lithography .?...

Just my own speculation but I think that's what they would like to do based on the upcoming Marklin station.  I doubt they decided to make just the station only to never make anything else in the Marklin line.  The station might be their way of testing the waters so to speak, if it sells well then maybe that will be an indication that there is a real market for Euro tinplate and they will commit more resources to this type of product.  I hope they go fully into Marklin repros, I'll be all in.

I don`t think they would make just one item either, but with LIONEL and AMERICAN FLYER, MTH has been making Tooling for those products for over 30 years, so it will start out slow with the European Line... I do believe they will start making Engines, but MTH is still working on the License with MARKLIN.. Mike did say the LEIPZIG STATION would probably be shipped around August because all the tooling was done and the pictures they have on Facebook are of the actual piece from the tooling..

I agree John. At Strasburg at least a couple of years back Mike had mentioned Marklin tinplate would be coming down the road. He didn't specify on what at the time but I doubt the station will be the last we see of Marklin reproductions. It will be interesting to see what may be next!

I'd like to see Mike's do a good deal of the Marklin 1 gauge in Std Gauge. And again I doubt that MTH has the resources to do 1-Gauge for Europe and Std. Gauge for the US market. This might be a good dog fight to watch for who will win.

I was watching the John DeSantis Collection on TMBV` 'TINPLATE LEGENDS IN ACTION #3' and He has an Engine made by MARKLIN specifically for Standard Gauge..

The Marklin 1 Gauge engine I would like to see in MTH Standard Gauge is the Rail Zeppelin. A completely impractical invention in the real world, but incredibly cool. The ultimate in high-concept steampunk, even though it isn't steam. It would be the perfect companion for my McKeen Windsplitter. 

 

There's an original on the Bay right now, but at seven grand it's way above my pay grade. For the moment I'll have to be content with my Marklin Rail Zeppelin in Z gauge. 

One of the "super models" that Maerklin made in the 1930s was the UK outline 2001 "Cock O' the North" P2 2-8-2. Marklin made it in 0 gauge only. Decades later Italian tinplate manufacturer Francesco Biaggi made the model after Maerklin but in No. 1 gauge (three rail, DC.) You can see how impressive it would appear in Standard gauge. The Maerklin model had Walscherts valve gear, which was correct for the first of the series prototype loco in its later modified form. But Biaggi faithfully reproduced the model as the prototype existed when first manufactured: with Lentz valve gear. The Lentz valve gear on the Biaggi model actually operates. There is a minature worm gear box mounted to the second driver on either side that rotates a long shaft that runs forward into the steamchest. In the prototype there was a camshaft that actuated poppet valves inside the steamchest rather than a sliding piston valve. Sir Nigel Gresley, the loco's designer, was a fan of Lentz valve gear even though it was not used on the other locos in the P2 series and was replaced rather early on in the Cock O' The North.

I've been writing to MTH for years about making some of the top of the line Marklin gauge 1 trains with the option of 3 rail gauge 1, or standard gauge to run on American layouts. I'm glad to see others with the same idea. But if MTH wants to have good sales in European tinplate reproductions, they need to focus on the larger gauge one trains. Because there are already so many making O gauge tinplate now in Europe. Like Darstaed, Ace Trains, ETS and corgi did Bassett Lowke too. And there's others. The UK is flooded with them. They're not Marklin replicas, but they are European tinplate replicas that are very similar to the Marklin look. Only a few small shops in Germany make gauge 1 tinplate replicas. And they are thousands of euros each, with years before one can get what they ordered. So gauge 1 is by far the smartest move for MTH. I want a CER, HR66 and a brown CE65/13021 that Marklin made for the British market. And would DEFINITELY buy a replica of the Marklin gauge 1 tinplate Crocodile (Krokodil) with a matching set of green 57cm passenger cars, like the ones Wilag of Switzerland did in the 1970's. I remember posting about this one time, and somebody said that the Marklin Maxi trains were Marklin prewar tinplate reproductions. The Maxi trains are OK, but they are not in any way a replica of Marklin prewar tinplate trains. There not even 3 rail. Maxi trains are G gauge 2 rail trains for garden railroading. And they are nothing compared to the 3 rail gauge one trains that Marklin made in the 1930's. Tell Mike Wolf, I'm in for this endeavor all the way! I'll have to email you Jim Kelly!
