how do i change out the grease in a lionel 1990 daylight express. it has been sitting for about 20+ years so i think the grease would be no good by now. also any other things i should do to get her up and running.

anyone at all?? even hints would be good.
Could you explain more fully what a daylight express is? What is the catalog number? What type of loco is it (steam, diesel, little Lionel, G scale, traditional, scale)?
it is steam. 1990 southern pacific gs-2 daylight 4-8-4 locomotive and tender.
number 6-18007. made by lionel. i would guess it is semi scale.
This loco is similar to the 736 Berkshire and the 746 N&W J loco from post war years.
Take the chassis out of the boiler. Two screws in back and one in front. Remove the motor from the chassis. Clean and grease both the worm gear on the motor and the worm wheel on the axle shaft.
The instructions and pictures should be in the Lionel postwar and modern repair books made by Greenberg.
thanks very much RoyBoy.
You will find that your locomotive will run better if you replace all the old grease with, Red N Tacky #2.
still trying to get that darn motor out. going to try once more tonight.
