Poor Tadpole Willis didn’t count on them stringing 6 or 8 of those diesels together into one big powerhouse! 😉

Yes indeed Mark, O'l Tadpole passed on to the big roundhouse in the sky before dieselization really took root.  I hate to say it, but it was probably a blessing that O'l Tadpole passed on, due to the fact that the Western Maryland was fully diesel powered by 1954.   Surely had he lived til then, he'd probably died of disappointment and a broken heart.  Tad sure love him some steam locomotives.

FOR TODAY:  It's 1958 ... Her Majesty Queen J ... Queen of the Free State Junction Railway fleet brings the Pocahontas through town at 95 mph.   ( Lionel scale with TMCC from the 2005 cat. ) IMG_0167

Retiree Pops McCall, with trade mark straw hat and smoking a pipe,  stands on the tower's bottom platform to watch the J whiz past.  Tower operator Pinky Oldheim stands at the top of the tower steps to take a gander of the J as well. Rather metaphoric; the gondolas with junk load headed to the scrap yard ... where all J classes, except this one,  will wind up ... sadly all too soon.

FOR TODAY:  " I gotta tell ya Harley, I'm gitten pretty darn tard of these freight cars going off the rail and onto the ground.  Seems like all we beenah doin here lately is puttin cars back on the track!"  Harley chimes in while nodding is head "Yep, know watcha mean thar Tiptoe.  I'm plumb tard of doin it too. That new yard engineer musta come from the Patapsco and Back Rivers Railroad over air near Baltimore.  That road's nick name is the Push Bump and Ram!" ...  to which there was a trio of hardy laughter.  After the laughter dies down Little Benny says " Well fellas, what I been hearin round the yard is just that.  The new yard engineer is Big Sid the yard master's nephew and he did in fact come from the P&BR. With this new engineer we  need to make  an even longer nickname .. The Push Bump Ram and Re - rail"  Again the trio breaks out into a chorus of belly laughs. O'l Harley laughed till his face turned 3 shades of red. When his o'l face was about to turn the 4th shade Harley's eyes got big as coffee cup saucers and his mouth opened like the Holland Tunnel! " Now dag it Little Benny you done made me soil my breaches!!" ... just another day on the railroad.

Here's a few pics for today.

Sometimes a steam locomotive, no matter what its' size, seems to dwarf everything else around it when viewed thru the eyes of a foamer.  LOL!

Larry - thank you so much for your kind words!  Pics of your terrific layout are always wonderfully interesting!

@Farmerjohn, your mine scene is so cool, although the pictures are nice, your sound effects bring it to life, a short video would be really nice. Also your work trucks, the Big Ones really add to your mine scene, making it an amazing crowd pleaser when visiting your wonderful model railroading. (I just had to say that), and Today, I’m showing pictures of a friends layout, Ron Zellem, where we had a fun train day on May 28th. He has a uniquely beautiful model railroad.
