I'm sure this has been done...and done...so I apologize in advance but...
If I add err cruise to the williams scale Hudson do I risk burning out the suethe smoke unit running it in command?
Can I run the engine at low voltage to not be so hard on the suethe and still have cruise ability to a point and not harm the cruise commander?

The suethe unit has its own regulator designed input AC track voltage and output 6 V DC. It will be ok even at 18-20 volts on the track. You could even wire it to the feature pin on the Cruise Commander so you could shut it off with your handheld.

Or you could replace it with a fan driven smoke unit, the Super-Chuffer II and the Chuff-Generator and party on with awesome smoke!

Well, I "sort of" drop them in. Takes some time, but gives good results! 
If your interested I'm always up to working on models for other people, but if you are looking to do this upgrade yourself this forum is the place to learn and ask questions.
The ERR Cruise Commander is the best thing to happen to a Williams die-cast scale Hudson, as they are geared for light speed. The cruise calms them down. They won't creep at 4 smph (that's OK), but mine runs at acceptable Hi-Rail speeds.
And the Seuthe smoke unit survived the 18V, but I turned it off - the "smoke" (it's actually vapor) was so think that it would ooze out and fall downward to the track when the loco was not moving. I have never seen smoke, much less steam, fall. Looked totally weird.
But - ERR saved my not-too-bad detailing/weathering job on this loco because it made it nice to use.
