Adjusting the sound on the 44-ton switcher

Good news....I am liking this loco more and more......

I guess I'll check for a volume adjustment on my RS3.  I'd like have more volume, it's the only negative thing I have found with the engine.

Awesome thanks Lee and Dave.  The board is just so small, I missed that adjustment.  This will make me happier.  I had noticed that mine was considerably lower than Lee's, as posted in his video.  Cool...will adjust mine first chance I get.

I just checked...my volume was turned up all the way.  Even tested it on the track and backed the sound down and up again.  It is at its max.

The sound is nice at idle, but gets drowned out when you're running.  I do like the prime mover, it'll be a shame to lose that with the TMCC upgrade, but I don't see any way to retain it.

I tried to adjust my sound louder as instructed.  the small adjust shown - rheostat or whatever turns and turns and turns and makes no difference in the sound level.  I can hear it at idle in neutral if I am within eight feet of so, but when it is running I have to walk alongside it and be close to hear it at all - it sounds like it just keeps idling, but it is heard to hear even when I keep my ear within about two feet.  

Does anyone know of a 6 to 12 volt audio amplifier board that might fit?  I'd try splicing it in line with the speaker and hope . . . 

I have another that was shipped today (to make a calf).  I wonder if it will be the same?

Lee, running it on my rollers I managed to hear the prime mover increase in RPM.  You have to be clipping along to get that to happen, slow movement seems to stay at idle.  I'm guessing there are only three or four steps in the prime mover.

I don't know if mine ever gets out of idle.  I tired listening again - I let her rip around my big loop, all alone.  Even with motors wired in series she really flew at 14 volts and I walked alongside the whole twenty-foot straight where the track is right on the edge of the layout, but at that speed, I could hear nothing of the engine sound over the wheel noise - and I have Atlas track, which is not particularly noisy.

The other one will arrive Wednesday.  Maybe it will be louder.

Mine probably won't be here for a few more days (although the MiniCommander is waiting), but by then i'm sure you will have figured out a way to retain the prime mover sounds after doing an ERR conversion.  Assuming one does not necessarily want the the horn & bell, and  is not planning on adding a RailSounds Commander, would there be any way to retain the WBB sound board for just prime mover sounds if one could find a tap for the voltage it needed? Thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks as always.

Here's a video, I have it running "full speed" on the blocks, then I slowly reduced the throttle to very low speed.  I only suspended it by the outer wheels so that I wouldn't get any wheel rolling sounds.  I can hear what I believe is four levels.  This is with my bench 1033 transformer, so the top speed was around 16 volts.
