JOSEF: WOW! FANTASTIC documentary, with lots of old friends: Grady Ragan. Robert M. Soule, III, George Walker, Tim Andrews, Steve Freer and Shane Meador! I had several cab rides in the 4501, and even got to fire her on one occasion on the SR portion of the former TC on an Autumn Leaf Special. My longest cab ride in the 4501 was a 30 mile segment of the former L&N main between Murfreesboro, TN and Nashville The late Robert Soule and Paul Merriman along with Graham Claytor, Jr were responsible for the restoration of the SR 4501 and the continuation of the BEST steam program fielded by any railroad. THANK YOU for posting the great link to a well-done video!

Glad you enjoyed it. Also thanks for adding a personal touch to this great video.

I also personally knew Bob Soule and Paul Merriman, and had met Mr. Claytor once in Chattanooga, where he was speaking at an event my wife and I attended, while he was serving as Secretary of the Navy. He was kind enough to autograph my copy of the 4501 story written by the late David P. Morgan. Mr. Claytor was a real gentleman and true railfan and also a toy train collector!

when he was serving as Secretary of te Navy diring the Carter administration.

Just watched this fascinating and thorough documentary for the second time today about a VERY SPECIAL steam locomotive, that my wife and I first rode behind on our first Autumn Leaf Special from Chattanooga, TN to Crossville, TN in 1974. We continued to ride countless steam excursions over the next twenty years, first on the Southern and later, Norfolk Southern. We both served as volunteers at TVRM and I went on to qualify as a fireman and engineer trainee during the summer of 1984. My locomotive was the former SR 722. As a former middle school, and later high school teacher, in the Nashville, TN school system, I shared my love of trains by taking many of my students on those mainline excursions. My students and I practically rode behind every locomotive fielded by both the SR and NS steam programs. Some trips were also to the museum, where some of them got to watch me run the 722! Ah, memories!
