Announcing the Legacy Users Group Fall 2017 Meeting Questions and Agenda Overview Posted!

I’d be happy to. I’ll be around with a Polar Express hat on. Do you have modules or are you just bringing the Cab and Base?

Thanks! I don't have a module. Im very new to the upgrading progress. Can we plan to meet maybe around 3 in the Orange hall?

Dwight: Yeah, it's just a run of the mill slaughter house, but sure anytime.
Toby: Well, you know, 'cause of the trains.

I'll be outside in the lobby to the left when standing in front of the hall around 3.

Doesn’t Charles Ro sell programmed modules? Just FYI if someone can’t get the programming done.

Yes they do.  I know also Imperial Train Company has a set hanging on the peg board as well.

I posted the questions in pdf form that were submitted to Lionel.  Again we'll be recording the meeting and if all goes well should be available sometime the following week for viewing.  We had a lot of questions so I suspect that will be the majority of the meeting along with Dave Olson's small presentation and Q&A.  No big surprises but with the Legacy BLE we should be able to get some information from Dave on how this will change the way we operate our trains!

Hoping we finally get the auto whistle/horn Depart - Back-up - Crossing signal sequences like MTH has!

Hi @BobbyD,

Can you please explain what you mean by "auto whistle/horn Depart - Back-up - Crossing signal sequences"?  Are these specific pre-programmed whistle/horn sequences that you can activate at the touch of a button?

MTH has a soft key that blows the whistle automatically as if going over the crossing. The sensor track has this functionality but it's not in a single button push for Legacy.

Thank you.  I asked because this is something I could add to my software.  I could create any sequence of whistle/horn blows or any commands for that matter and create a single button for it.  Or a user could just use the Scenario feature of my software and save as many sequences of commands as they want.

Marty,

im at the orange hall. Where are you?

Marty, thanks for hosting a great meeting. You really do put in a lot of effort and it shows.

I know there will be a full posting of the proceedings, but I just want to say that my impression of Lionel's answers to the questions of what they would be doing in the future was NO to just about everything. And when the Lionel rep stated that Android and bluetooth didn't work well together, I was totally shocked. I had never heard that before and I use them together all the time. So my takeaway is that you did great and Lionel did lousy. I suspect that they see the future as bluetooth and Legacy will languish. IMO, the biggest improvement in Legacy is the ability to use it with the MTH wifi.

I could see a bluetooth to legacy adapter.  Let just imagine this is right:

The remote bluetooth controller sends a command to the bluetooth to legacy adapter using of course bluetooth rf signalling, the adapter converts it to the appropriate legacy signalling and sends it out...  and away we go.

In fact the "nice" thing about legacy is it's all one way save for LCS... so you don't even have to worry about getting info back ...

But the LCS could probably be made to plug into the bluetooth adapter and it could be made to have enough of the "base code" to work... and send its packets back through the bluetooth signalling to the remote control system.

Of course any new bluetooth engines, can just use bluetooth.

Having said all that, technical feasibility probably doesn't necessarily translate to making money ...  and that's probably it in nutshell for them.  They could ditch legacy, maybe they imagine eventually they will -- but how does that help their bottom line?

Anyway, just speculation!

Thank you everyone for coming.  We hope to have the summary and video up by the end of next week.  Thanks again to Dave and Dean from Lionel for attending.  It's always great to have you.

Thanks again Marty for sharing information about the High Rail app.

Marty,

Like the others, I want to thank you for all the time and effort you put into this.  I also want to thank David for taking time to drop by and answer questions.

The best information I received was learning that Lionel is producing the CSM2 for the DZ-2500

As Marty explained, MTH has soft keys to give you the Forward, Back-up, and Grade Crossing whistle/horn sequences without you having to do anything else. A sweet little feature.

Sadly, for some reason, they drop the Grade Crossing sequence from a "lash-up" on our level of DCS software. Would have dropped something else before that myself.

I certainly agree with your statement here! Doesn't make sense to me?? As you say, MTH please remove something else that is not often used and add this one back in it's place!!

you can use this to play any clip mth offers... http://www.silogic.com/trains/ADPCM.html

In theory you could probably modify to play a "string of sounds" to your liking.  Of course you'd have to have the PC sitting there next to the layout.

Someone should port this to android...

I have not gotten into Mark's program as much as I would like to (one of these days!), only fiddled with it a few times. It does work and works very well. And I believe you can replace (and possibly even add) your own sounds to the MTH sound files with Mark's program, then reload the sound file and you have your own custom sounds. I don't think you need the PC after doing that. It really is a great little program. I can't imagine the time it must have taken to figure it all out, but glad Mark put the time into it. It is really worth taking the time to look around the website in your link above. Lots of good stuff there!!

That's interesting because when you operate an MTH lash-up in DCC you don't lose the grade crossing signal. It's mapped to function key 11.

Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.

MTH's hand held controller's horn/whistle button had such a long delay that you could not play the forward, reverse, and crossing signals very realistically using the horn/whistle button.  MTH had to add these buttons to play the sequence for you, but you have no control over it.

I much prefer the Legacy's well placed and sensitive slider switch to play these signals.  If I have to press a button anyway to get the signal, why not have some additional play value in actually doing the sequence manually like a real engineer (at least on my 1949 era layout).  I can vary it anyway I want, get different tones, and do different lengths of the long and short blasts to fit whatever my mood is at the time.

Plus, my crossing signals using Legacy always end right after I pass the crossing.  With MTH's button, it was always guesswork to get it right.

On the sound file program.  I just meant it could be retrofitted into a "string together" clip player with relative ease ... that is someone could do it.  In fact, given interest I bet Mark would enjoy taking that up.  But I'm putting words into his mouth there.

Although the fancy Lionel way is nice, it requires a full Legacy controller and compatible Lionel Legacy engine. The MTH way allows almost any of their Proto 2 or Proto 3 locomotives to do it. I can't do it as well with the Lionel TMCC or "Legacy Lite TMCC Style" controllers, Wish it/we could "play" the earlier ones.

The Forward, Backup and Crossing buttons are also things I miss on the Legacy system. Even though you can do this with the Cab 2 manually, I still miss having the specific selections for them as the MTH remote does.

Catnap, that is very interesting that the crossing signal still works on MU'd MTH engines in DCC and not in DCS. Adding a NCE DCC system and loop of track for it is still on my want-to-do list (I have a really long list!). All I will have to run on it will be MTH PS3 engines, but really I do want to try this someday and have it to fiddle around and learn with.

Nope. I'll post when it is.
