I’ve been running a New Haven Railroad train powered by ALCo RS-3 #531 on my 12’-by-8’ layout.

New Haven RS-3 #531 is an Atlas O Trainman model (20033012, MSRP $399.95) with TMCC made in 2012. It is pulling MTH Premier stainless-steel passenger cars with fluted sides.

The New Haven Railroad’s first RS-3s were delivered in 1950 with an orange hood/green cab livery. The orange hood/black cab McGinnis livery was first applied to New Haven’s RS-3s in 1956.

Nate, the seats were listed as blue. I have a book on NH lightweight passenger cars. There is a color publicity photo that shows the interior of a pre-war coach. These were the only lightweight coaches before the war so I’m    guessing it’s a Bradley car. Appears to be a dark blue.

Pretty sure the car you have in the photo. Was an extra separate sale one Weaver made. The 4 car sets didn’t feature the script lettering on the car ends. The NH  did a few cars in this scheme that featured a separated  partitioned smoking lounge. The seats were laid out like an observation car. Somewhere I have the floor pan. I laid out mine in the same manner. Can’t remember what I used for seats. I know I bought some Keil Line standing ashtrays. Perhaps the seats came from them to.

I had a Grill Car made many years ago by a local modeler using this car as a base. Built the same way as the prototype conversion. 3 windows were blocked out and he did a full interior. I’ll have to dig both of them out and post a few photos.

Wow! This thread is 5 and a half years old and 27 pages long......I guess the answer is an emphatic YES! There are a lot of us new Haven fans!!!!!

Some pics. of modified Weaver Bradley cars. The first is a grill car. The modeler that did it for me was an avid NH fan and modeled in G scale. Very talented. He blocked out the windows and doors just like the NH did and created a Grill Car. Tough to see but a full interior. Not sure if the lettering is correct but it’s a beauty.

The other car is like the one Nate showed. The cars with the script lettering featured a smoking lounge. A partition was built and one seat was flipped to face the other. The lounge seats I believe were from Keil Line. There are ashtrays in there and the seats in both sections were painted in prototypical colors.

And a Happy New Year to you too, Mel. Now, being an admitted iconoclast, you have pictured one of the few NH (or any other line) that I don’t like - something about those electrics has always looked off to me… but I love the paint scheme (Is that an EF-4 or 5???)

It's an EF-4, the last New Haven electric freight motor. They were nicknamed "bricks." Twelve were purchased from the Norfolk & Western in 1963 for the bargain price of $300,000 (total) when the New Haven was in bankruptcy.

Great Photos, and let me throw my hat in the New Haven ring. My first diesel set. The grandkids have it on the siding while the polar express takes the main line in the photo. Lionel 922 and 923 run smooth and i am looking for a nice caboose to match the livery as this is my favorite..... Orange on black. Sorry for the poor photos, I did not want to cut n paste one off the dark web,,,,,,

7DF325AE-C901-425F-B834-FDC0563BEDD2Been searching for this dl-109 for years. Just got from forum sponsor TRAINZ   They graded c7-excellent (minor scratches/wear etc). To me it looks new  all packaging materials etc.  They underpromised /over delivered    When I started it up (after putting in a BCR) everything was great except sound volume was low and garbled. On this forum I found out this is a common problem with PS2 speakers. I swapped out with speaker from my DL-109 Cranberry and that did the trick. I was so happy for such an easy solution. I reported to TRAINZ and they gladly gave me a price refund for cost of a replacement speaker.

The MTH Premier model of New Haven Railroad EF-4 #303 (20-5508-1) was listed in the 2000 Volume 1 catalog and delivered with PS1 in February 2000 at MSRP $329.95. I run my PS1 engines with a BCR.

The New Haven Railroad filed for bankruptcy in 1961 at a time when its electric freight motors were beyond economical repair but electric motive power was necessary to maintain freight service under the catenary between Cedar Hill (New Haven), Oak Point Yard (Bronx, New York) and Bay Ridge Yard in Brooklyn. In 1963, the New Haven trustees purchased twelve surplus rectifier freight electrics from the Norfolk & Western Railway for a total of $300,000. They had cost $267,710 each when new at GE in 1956 and 1957. Designated class EF-4 and known as “bricks,” they had 3,300 horsepower and were very successful on the New Haven. Usually run in pairs, they hauled hundred-car trains. Eleven were still in operation when the New Haven was merged into Penn Central in 1969 and ten lasted into the 1976 formation of Conrail. They ran until Conrail terminated electric freight operations in 1981.

New Haven Railroad Alco S-2 diesel switchers #0617 and #0615 are MTH Premier models (20-20588-1 and 20-20587-1, MSRP $449.95) released in 2016 with PS3. Photos and videos show them running as a push-pull consist under conventional control on the O-54 loop of my 12’-by-8’ model railroad.

Twenty-two Alco S-2s were built for the New Haven Railroad (Class DEY-5) during 1943 and 1944. They had a 1,000 horsepower, turbocharged 6-cylinder 539T engine and a tractive effort of 57,500 pounds. On the New Haven, S-2s were used for heavy switching and to replace 2-6-0, 2-8-0 and 2-8-2 steam locomotives on local freights. New Haven S-2s were still running when Penn Central took over in 1969 and three made it into the 1976 formation of Conrail.

New Haven Railroad trains have been running on my 12'-by-8' model railroad this week.

4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler #816 is a Lionel Legacy model (6-82272, MSRP $899.99) shown in the 2014 Volume 2 Catalog. The prototype #816 (Class G-4a) was built by Baldwin in 1904 and was used in Shore Line express passenger service when new.

New Haven S-2 #0615 is an MTH Premier model (20-20587-1, MSRP $449.95) delivered in 2016 with PS3. The prototype #0615 (Class DEY-5) was one of 22 built by Alco in 1944 with a 1000 horsepower turbocharged 539T engine and 57,500 pounds tractive effort.
