My New Haven contribution for today:

Those are MTH PS3 New Haven PAs (The Senator), both units are powered, and MTH New Haven passenger cars. I've been told that the sounds are very realistic.

Those locomotives never leave my layout; they are either parked on a siding or running on a mainline. Arnold

Dave;

I’m pretty sure that is a kit from forum sponsor TW Trainworx

https://www.twtrainworxstore.c...en-signal-tower-kit/

MELGAR (aka Mr. New Haven!!!) had an article in OGR covering his building of this same kit - a work of art!!!

My article about the New Haven tower was in OGR Magazine Run 307.

Love that Alco sound!

For my New Haven fans contribution, I transport you to the town of Uxbridge, MA at the Millville Road (Route 122) underpass, 22 miles North from Providence, RI,. early in the Fall of 1949.  In 5 years the state will relocate the road to eliminate this dangerous “dead man’s curve” underpass, demoting this stretch of road to being known as “Old Millville Rd.”  Coming down from the Grafton barracks, a state trooper stopped to see why we were sitting on the side of the road. He seemed skeptical of the whole “railroad enthusiast” thing but went onto more important things. Shortly after he drove away, we were rewarded with a New Haven R2a lugging train PW-4 from Providence, RI northbound to Worcester, MA.NH R2a Millville Rd

Later in the week, we were able to catch New Haven Pacific 1343, also headed north, with Train 124, the northbound section of the “State of Maine”.  This train is jointly operated by the New Haven and Boston & Maine railroads, from Grand Central Terminal to Portland, ME.  After Providence, it will stop at Union Station in Worcester for an engine and crew change for the B&M to finish the run to Portland.

The R2a and Pacific are Lionel.  The Pacific being a nicely done Mr. Muffin custom option.  The bridge is an HO "junk box" girder reworked, painted and lettered with dry transfers. The rock walls are Scenic Express purchases from years ago which i repainted.

Happy railfanning!

Farmall- Joe.  I use to travel through Uxbridge on the way to Thompson Speedway and years later to the Douglas State Forrest to trail ride. We use to lengthen the ride there at times by using an abandoned RR bed from Franklin rather than trucking there. Long ago before I was interested in RR’s.

Nice Post. Brings back the memories.

Dave C Thanks.  For others unfamiliar, Dave rode the Midland Division (former NYNE) right of way.  Its now a paved rail trail sporadically from Franklin to Bellingham and from Blackstone to Uxbridge but still gravel from Uxbridge thru to CT.

A pair of New Haven DL-109's heads a hot shot string of reefers with produce and meat toward New Haven's Cedar Hill Classification Yard for distribution to markets and outlets. The DL109's were  manufactured by MTH. The New Have never had any "B" units but I couldn't resist the hunter green and gold paint scheme. Each unit has twin motors so there is plenty of power to run longer trains ever with my grades of less than 1%

A week ago, I posted a video of the diesel-engine startup sounds of my MTH New Haven Railroad Alco DL-109 locomotive #0719 (20-2325-1 with PS2). Posted below is a better video of the startup of that model and another of my MTH New Haven Fairbanks-Morse CPA-24-5 locomotive #793 (20-20474-1 with PS3). I find this subject interesting - but I may be the only one...

Melgar, I'm living proof that you are not the only one. Arnold

New Haven Alco RS-3 #531 is an Atlas O Trainman model (20033012, MSRP $399.95, TMCC, 2012). The video shows it running at 16 scale miles-per-hour on the O-36 inner loop of my 12’-by-8’ layout. It was one of 20 Class DERS-2c locomotives delivered to the New Haven Railroad in 1950. They had 1600 horsepower and a maximum speed of 80 miles-per-hour.

Nate,

Here's a leg up on some of the detail parts if you're interested. All New Haven RS-3s had a cab signal box on the engineer's side walkway, just ahead of the cab. Mounted above the box on a bracket was a signal generator, which output the specific frequency AC current needed by the signal system. Several years ago while working on my own RS-3 models I couldn't find these parts in O-scale, so I modeled them up in CAD and had them 3D printed by Shapeways using their Fine Detail Plastic. At the time, each of the three models cost about $15 to print, but they provide enough parts to detail four RS-3s. The .stl files (which can be uploaded to any 3D printing service) are attached, feel free to use them.

Here is how they look on my models of 529 (in the Alpert scheme) and 531 (in its delivery scheme):

For all you New Haven fans- here is a link to a youtube video by Uconn Archives regarding the Comet. There are many photos and blueprints included that i hadnt seen before. https://youtu.be/CzXunuRcamc

Thanks for this. I went to UCONN for my graduate degree so this is really cool to see. I sometimes comb the online archive of the CT historical society to find rail history but did not think of going to the UCONN archives.
