Ross Xover with Super O track 002Ross Xover with Super O track 003Ross Xover with Super O track 004

Dave, I wanted a crossover between my two Super O mainlines that would allow me to easily back a train through, so I used a pair of Ross #11 switches. I think they match up well visually and work great. I made the transition pieces out of short lengths of Ross straight. Rail height is not an issue but I did fab up some center rail adapters using Super O center rail from other projects. One of my Super O buds uses lots of Ross switches on his layout, too. You will need to insert pins in the guide rails and bend them downward if you're running postwar cars with plastic slide shoes.

Boy, Super-O was a real swing and a near miss. It still impresses generally. Timing didn't help, as it came at the end of the PW boom, right before O went nearly to the graveyard.

It even looks better than the GG track (I like GG/Ross) - except for the humped ties. Hated that when it came out (I was about 10), and can't get past it. Of course, no big curves, so useless to me anyway.

Super-O: de-humped, finessed, curves/switches up to 072 (and beyond!) - too late now, but it could have been the best Hi-Rail track.

Ross doesn't make switches in O36 to complement the geometry of Super O.  I've asked Steve a couple of times...

O36 is the new O31.  Even some traditional trains WON'T run on O31 so I wouldn't advise anyone to build a layout with curves that small unless they're die-hard Postwar only, or they lack the space for anything larger.

C'mon @RCSSTEVE please give another thought to making your great switches in O36!

I have had superO for awhile but the weak links have always been the switchs and the O36 curves. I'm planning that for a future layout I would like to use Ross switches and Ross curves of O48 and larger, O36 will no longer play a part in a layout I build. I will use superO straights beings I have a bunch of it.

I would like to find somebody out there to widen superO curves at a reasonable cost but they are hard to find.

Dave
