Apparently there are two versions of the 054 switches floating around. One with a 4 1/2 section that can be removed and one without the removable 4 1/2 inch section. Does anyone know which of these is the newest one currently available from Atlas. I only have one hobby shop in my area and the only one they have is the one without the removable section of track. I need the one that can be shortened by removing the 4 1/2 inch section.

I believe that the one with the removable 41/2 is the newest. Also, the older versions have a continuity problem transferring power thru the turnout.
I only bought the new O54 turnouts when I built my layout, and they must have all had removable sections as I have a large stack of extra 4.5" straights. Also, the new turnouts will have a "UV Resistant" or similar sticker on the box. Even if you never put them outside, never buy an Atlas O turnout without that sticker as they added it when they redid the turnout to fix the continuity problem.

The Atlas O-54 switches with the fixed 4-1/2" section are pretty old, possibly from their first release. I started buying Atlas track in 2012 and the 4-1/2" section was removeable back then. Just be careful if buying used and you should be fine.
