The instruction sheet that came in my package from Royz   describes it as " Horn Supply Information " and in the body of the directions it says " The objective is to replace the 1.5 volt D cell battery in many of the the post war Lionel engines ...the design provides a little over 1.5 volts to ensure adequate voltage to operate the early post war horns  ... when mounted in the engine , it easily fits within the space of the former D cell battery. "

Thats about all the information I can provide. I purchased this in November 2018

...1.5 voltage reg. Bridge. And capacitor. Is that the basics?

Bingo.

Albeit in their photo, even though it's labeled "bridge" on the board, they use just a single diode for AC-to-DC conversion rather than a 4-diode bridge.  There are some arcane technical considerations that have to do with chassis/frame grounding on rolling stock that makes it desirable to use the single-diode method.  But if this is for a track-side accessory powered from Accessory AC, I don't think it matters.

If $10 plus shipping is too much, and willing to mess/tinker with some DIY wiring and such, you should be able to do this for less than $5 using eBay components/modules powered by Accessory AC.  And since this is track-side, I'd think another approach would be a 1.5V DC-output battery-eliminator "wall-wart" (wall-outlet powered) for maybe $5.

Thanks. Stan.

I do have some of those voltage regs from Asia. In fact came from Germany. It is small enough to fit.

Used one for smoke unit motor. But. Didn't want to use one for this.  I think it was a buck a piece.  What I have read johns ylb won't work . higher volts?.

From what I heard. Some one made them in a D battery case. Which I am looking for...
